Strength:
Space consolidation. Progressive scan.
Weakness:
Overly saturated black level. Muted audio. Few to no options for tweeking. Better DVD/VCR combo players out there, if you don't need progressive scan. Finally, a DVD/VCR combo player with progressive scan. I was looking to consolidate space on my shelf without trying to sacrifice too much video quality. I should've known better. The black levels on the DVD portion were insanely dark. I had this deck hooked up to a 36' Sony HDTV with Monster component cables, calibrated with Video Essentials for maximum video quality. Scenes that took place outdoors looked fine, but with anything that took place in shadows or evening and I'd be lucky if I could see their eyes. I compared it to my roomate's Panasonic DVD-RV22 and I noticed that hers has an option to adjust black levels, mine had no such thing. An oversight on Panasonic's part that really killed this DVD player in my opinion. As for the audio, it was very muted with no option to adjust it. I had to crank up my reciever very high in order to make the sound audible. My ex gf has a Samsung DVD/VCR combo player and it's much better than this product. I would've considered buying the Samsung if it had progressive scan. Anyways, I would not recommend this deck to anyone who is remotely serious about A/V quality. I'm glad I was able to get my money back. Similar Products Used: Panasonic DVD-RV22 Samsung DVD/VCR combo. |

Packed nicely
Weakness:
Doesn't work, right out of box Bad out of the Box, The DVD function worked, TV worked but when you put a VHS tape into well, it just shuts off! Now the device will not start up, well that's not exactly true, it does start, makes a whirring sound then shuts down, and it totally refuses to give me my tape back! The only way to get my tape back is to take it into a repair shop. Don't bother with purchaseing this prduct, and I recommend that all the venders out ther that have this device instock ... send it back to Panasonic untill they get there Quality Control back up to par. |
