Strength:

Inexpensive, Plenty of connections, CD/R, CD/RW, MP3 CDs

Weakness:

Remote, Audio DAC

I bought this player because it was a great deal. It was a unit I bought for my bedroom. I was looking for a unit that played CD-R and CD-RW and could handle DVD, CD, and VCD. This unit plays MP3 CDs, but that is not of much interest to me. I did try a MP3 CD and it works fine.

I made some VCDs on CD-RW using Roxio Easy CD Creator and they do not play properly on this player. The same VCD plays fine on the Pioneer and Sony players. If I make the VCD with the Nero software, it plays properly on the Philips player as well as the Sony and Pioneer.

DVD playback is as good as any other player I have used. Scan speed is not as smooth as the Sony, but better than the Pioneer player.

The remote is too small. It has the scan and next/previous chapter on the same buttons. This can cause you to skip to the next/previous chapter when you really want to scan forward/backward.

Audio from the stereo jacks is inferior to an audio CD player and both the Sony and Pioneer DVD players that I own.

I would not hesitate to recommend the unit. It is a good product with a few shortcomings. Audio is better if you only use the digital outputs.
