This is a terrible DVD player. I have exchanged it 3 times (I wanted to get something else, but they would only let me get the same player) and always the same problem, it gets stuck and will not play my DVDs.

Bought with Home theater system.Receiver works fine. 5 disc carousel would be only strngth dvd player has.

DVD skips and locks up = waste of money

Same problem as previous complaints. Skips and locks up after 25-30 minutes.This unit should not be allowed on market if everbody has problems like this. Where is Ralph Nader ???

Same as everybody else... This DVD skips after playing for a while, won't play CDRs, and is painfully slow to do anything. It amazes me that so many people complained about this product to philips and they do nothing to help the next victim.

It will not play DVD's

The unit will not play a complete movie. It the picture and sound get jumpy then it freezes mid-way through a movie. Sometimes it makes grinding noises. It is difficult to move to the next disc if you have more than one loaded. I bought it in April. Philips will not replace it. They expect me to pay $59.99 for an exchange. They expect me to pay to ship it to them. If I choose to do this I have to wait seven to ten days for them to mail instructions to me. I will never buy another Philips product.

Plays audio CD's, but I already own a CD player (that works).

Skips and freezes. Very slow to respond to commands. Burning odor after about 35 to 45 minutes of play.

Much to my dismay, I can only report the same information reported by previous reviews. The Phillips 5 disc cd changer allows 35 to 45 minutes of viewing and then begins skipping and freezing and a burning odor is noticable.I was only able to watch the previews of one movie. I have tried new cable connections, as well as changing the power source, to no avail. The store was gracious enough to exchange the unit for the same model, but it also skips/ freezes. I even had someone come in to problem solve/reconnect/setup resulting in the same problems. Don't buy this product and don't except it as "GIFT" with the purchace of another product. It's not worth the frustration or disappointment. I do have to say other Phillips products I have had orcurrently own have been great products. I just wish this one worked, and so do the grandchildren.

This products sucks.Spent money to return and they sent same one back and it still skipped etc. Wrote to Philips and complained LOUDLY and they refunded my money and sent me the dvd972ch. They upgraded me and all I wanted was a working unit. I havent tried this one yet as I just got it today and it better work.

Forget the review from me that''s below. Tried unplugging it overnight, and then directly into the wall outlet, and it still locks up after an hour. This thing is bad.

Do not buy this. It sucks. It doesn''t work. All Philips does is send you a new one that still doesn''t work. I now only use it for a cd-audio changer because it won''t play a movie past 45 minutes. Did I mention it sucks.

does not change disks automaticly, takes a long time to load disks.

I just recently bought this player and have played a half dozen movies in it and it seems to play just fine. Good picture and sound quality. Too bad the player dosent change disks for you. Keep unit in a cool place with plenty of ventalation.

Skipping, stuttering, freezing.

This is the second of these I have had in the last month. I bought it as part of a home theater system and have been having the same problems as everyone else. I am really ticked, I basically remodeled my entire basment so that I could enjoy the home theater experience, but that is hard to do when you can''t get through a whole movie without skipping and stuttering. Sams Club was really good about exchanging just the dvd player from another system but I don''t think I want to go for another one of these players. I guess I will have to take the whole system back and give my money to another company.
