Strength:

This is the best DVD player for the price out there!

Weakness:

Remote is somewhat awkward and the setup menu not as appealing as others!

This DVD player is an unbelivable unit for the price. This isn't your cheaply made Target and Wal-Mart DVD players this ranks right with twice as expesnive DVD players. My father purchased the Toshiba SD3109 which in my opinion is the best DVD player out there right now. In a side by side comparison audio and video quaility were equal, the setup menu on the Toshiba was a litte bit more appealing but the options where the same. Really the only downside to the Philips is the remote is a litte on the small side. It is compatible wiht DVD, VCD, CD, CDR and DVDR! The only player for the price with that ability. If you a looking for quality DVD player for a very resonable price you will be pleasently suprised with the Philips Magnavox 825 AT

Strength:

Brand name, great playback

Weakness:

Wish it was DTS and Digital dolby ready. Remote is too small and very hard to figure out.

It plays all the DVD formats. It played Matrix (which according to all reviews is the hardest video to play) flawlessly. We have had a few skips and jumps on a couple of rented DVD's but possibly it was a dirty DVD now that I know a little more about them. Called Magnavox regarding no manual. Customer service very prompt, curdious and very helpful. A very good DVD player for the money.

Strength:

Great Price, Good Video/Audio quality

Weakness:

Remote, some playback issues

Well, I bought this player on sale at Best Buy, and while it is not the best by any means, it is a fairly good player. I have had some issues with rented DVD's that caused the picture to become pixilated and cause the DVD to start skipping.....

Overall it is a good value for the money, just don't expect perfection at this price range.

Strength:

Great DVD player for the money- $179.00 @ the good guys
playes all formats, has DTS, SRS, and digital outputs.

Weakness:

small remote- tiny little buttons control major controls for player

This is my first DVD player and it does everything it should, picture quality is great, sound is great, ability to freeze the picture without any lines is great. I have rented many DVD movies including the infamous Matrix and have had no problums whatsoever. The picture quality seems to be the same as Dads Sony, he paid twice the amount and his doesn't even have the ability to play regular cd's. This is a Great DVD player for people who want to jump on the DVD wagon without paying a high premium and want a player that can handle DVD,CD-R,CD-RW,CD-audio,CD-video types of digital cd formats.
