Strength:
Top notch picture quality and sound, especially bass response, excellent.
Weakness:
Remote is not lighted. Super light weight for a higher end player. Minimal control of video primatives. Using it with Toshiba 61" with built in line doubler. Connected to Yamaha 2092. The emotional impact watching live music concert DVD's such as Billy Joel Live at Yankee Stadium and VH1 Diva's Live is unbelievable. Got this as a closeout for $499.99. Was going to wait a bit for DVD audio to mature, but at this price / performance, I had to jump for it. Overall, very happy with this player, although, like others, the external robustness of construction, while not bad, seems very low grade for a list $1000 player. I own a Elite PD-65 CD player, and I really love the feeling of robustness. With the PD-65, you get the feeling that the player will last forever, not the same with the DV-05. Still, I will have to compare the CD sound of the DV-05 to see if it is worth keeping the PD-65. Some of the low end imact that I have heard out of the DV-05 is like I have never heard with the PD-65. The unit is very light weight. This may imply a less robust power supply, but a DVD player does not need a ton of current, just low noise. Bought a Monster power conditioner. This is a MUST for high end DVD. Very noticable. Wish the DV-05 had more video adjustments like the 09 or DV-626. This is a bit of a dissapointment, but I am not really wanting a better picture. Overall, at $499.99 price, very hard to beat. Look for it at this price while it lasts. Similar Products Used: First DVD player. Definite noticible difference from low end DVD players in picture and sound, although the sound is probably more a product of the Yamaha 2092 than the player. On large screen TV (61"), picture is super sharp, clear, jumps out at you. Pulls you into the video experience much more than with a VCR or satellite TV / DSS. |

Strength:
Great picture
Weakness:
When you hit stop the player doesn't remember where you were Excellent machine great picture with the componet output this is a big boost to great color. If your TV does not support this output feature - trade in your TV! I have not experienced any problems. I would highly recomend this machine to anyone who is in the market. However,it is pricey but worth it. |

Strength:
awesome picture and sound. thx.
Weakness:
box looks and feels cheap relative to performance. It is awesome with sony 36" wega xbr. This machine makes mediocre quality dvd's look good. Friends, family, and kids can't keep their eyes off the tv. Credit should be given to the tv as well. Paid $675 for the 05. I give 5 stars for value; 4 stars for overall rating because the 09 is suppose to be better but the premium I believe is mostly cosmetics. The sony is a couple notches below in performance (also $250 less). If you have a tv/monitor that costs more than $1200, you can't skimp the extra $250 on a cheap dvd player. THX certified gives peace of mind in its performance. Similar Products Used: sony 550 |

Vivid video output, awesome audio, CD-R and true 96k/24bit capability! I have used this fine product for almost 4 months now, and I don't have one complaint about the unit. It performs flawlessly with everything I throw at it. Including DTS DVD and audio disks, 96k/24bit Chesky DVD audio disks, and CD-R disks!!! I haven't found any other DVD manufacturer that could handle all these formats, especially CD-Rs. Pioneer is the only manufacturer that I have found that can truely output a 96k/24bit signal. Almost all other players downconvert the audio signal to 44kHz. Although this may not be a big deal, I just hate it when manufacturers claim that their product can do something when it really can't. With the DV-05, it does everything Pioneer claims it can, and then some. Highly recommended. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD-3109, Panasonic A-120, PC-DVDroms |
