Strength:

Excellent picture quality, excellent sound quality if used as a transport, very good sound quality if analog outs used

Weakness:

busy remote, small buttons

This is a follow up to my 12/24/99 review.

My original opinion on the picture quality hasn't changed. Rather, it's now supported by viewing a lot more DVDs. In other comments here, IMO, any lip synch problem is a bad dvd player. My first unit had that problem. This one doesn't.

Using the dv-05 as a transport into my Denon AVR-3300 dramatically improved the sound quality - clean, detailed, sweet. I found the analog outs to be bright and less detailed, regardless of what it's connected to. Kudos to Denon on such a nice DAC in their receiver.

Short of a true high definition dvd format, I can't think of a reason why I'd want to replace this unit. Recommended.

Strength:

Best picture and sound quality in its class.

Weakness:

No built in DTS decorder.

I was looking for a DVD player under 1k and my frined told me that I might able to get a good deal on the net. I have narrowed my choice to the Sony7700 and the Pioneer Elite DV-05 becuase of the budgeet. I turn out deciding to get a DV-05 and start searching for the review. It seems some of the buyers did have some problem with the DV-05. Even my friend had the same problem which the unit purchased from Uncle Stereo two weeks. Though, one of the online trader refers me to Chi at MicShin and told me that I might able to get a good price from him. I e-mail Chi to place an order on the DV-05 and the unit arrived in three days. The tracnscation is smooth and the player in perfect!

Here's my two cents for the DV-05. It has the best picture.
The picture is more colorful and the image is really sharp compared to the Sony7700 or the Denon3000. Only thing is this player does not have a built in DTS decorder. Out of that, the DV-05 is a perfect player. I am very happy with the unit and thanks Chi for the great price and excellent service.

Strength:

great picture, great sound from the digital output, the D/A converter isn't bad either for playing CDs, and it looks great

Weakness:

Can't think of any

Without a boubt one of the finest DVD players available today. A Bug's Life literaly jumps off the screen. Talk about vivid colors. This thing made my jaw drop. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Sound was equally impressive. This isn't an entry level player in any way. I had the DV-525 for one week and took it back as fast as I could. What a clunker. The thing was so noisy it drove me nuts and the picture wasn't that great either. I guess it wouldn't be that bad if you listen to everything real loud and have bad eye site. Besides, it looks cheap. I do like the Toshiba players though. They really offer a great value for the dollar and provide real good video. But the DV-05 is truly state of the art in A / V You can find them by mail order for around $699 I found a new one in Chicago for $599 from an authorized dealer and don't regret this purchase at all.

Strength:

Good color and sound

Weakness:

Very light

This is a very good player, it has very good picture and sound. It is very simple to use and looks just great with the shiny black finish. I found it for a very good price so I could not miss out! It doesn't have progressive scan like the one Pioneer replaced it with but it is an overall great player.

Weakness:

palyer noise

I've owned this player for 6 months now; it was the last piece to complete my Elite line up (53' HDTV and 27TX receiver). It wasn't until the 3 months ago (after completing my dedicated 400sq theater room) that I noticed how noise it was reading the most DVDs. I went to great lengths to ensure that my room was acoustically suited for home theater and music. I went as far as getting the quietest ceiling fan. If there is a silent part in a movie your attention goes straight to the noise of the DVD player.

My non-audio enthusiasts friends who own bargain basement DVD players, mentioned that my player was LOUD. It is a direct result of the light chasey, which makes you thing you have bought a piece of plastic when you pick it up. I contacted Pioneer and it appears to be common complaint. Pioneer's response, 'The player is functioning properly", Unacceptable!!. There is more to building a product then making sure the innards are functioning properly, like customer satisfaction. The only option they offered was to upgrade to the DV 09 and pay the difference, ya right!

After that verbal lashing, I have to point out that it is excellent on the intended audio sound and video as well. In these two areas the player is unmatched in its price range. My last option is to by glass doors for my entertainment cabinet and sticks the sucker behind it.

Strength:

Picture - Sound - That KEWL Blue Light!

Weakness:

I'm no audophile, but I haven't found any yet.

I've never had a complaint since the day I unpacked and plugged it in. Yes, it's light- but I'm glad for that- I just finished rewiring my whole Home Theatre system and was glad for at least one component that was good quality and didn't weigh a ton. The unit is solid, which I found after it got knocked around a few times during the whole setup.

I used it to play CD's, no complaint there either- sounds fine, and since I got mine for $700, I can't say I could have done any better.

Last trite point- the blue power light is just 'kewl' -of all the bells and whistles, whenever someone's over, the first thing the comment on is the blue light. -go figure

Blue light, THX certification, Loading Tray, Sound and Picture

Weakness:

Honestly none so far

Once I brought my Pioneer Elite VSX-24THX I knew that I wanted a top notch DVD player for my films ( At last count 138 ).

When I unpacked the unit the light weight had me nervous. This unit must weight 7 pounds, if that much. Once the unit was connected and I put in Saving Private Ryan I was in shock.

The picture look great on my big screen. The colors were right on and the sound was out of this world.

I like the remote control but rapidly put the information into my Philips Pronto remote control. ( A wonderful device ). The best remote control I have ever used. ( Go Philips )

Anyway, I have used the unit for countless hours and have not Had one problem at all. I can not wait for their next DVD player ( Elite ).

If you have any questions about this unit feel free to e-mail me.

Strength:

Picture, sound, detail, great menu and features

Weakness:

Honestly, none so far except for no zoom feature!

I picked this player up last Friday, boy was I amazed. This is by far the best player I've ever owned and seen up yo date. I had the chance to pick up the dv-09, but for the money, dv-05 is much better. The picture quality for both players are almost similar.

Detail in the picture is awesome, colours are great, and a Bug's Life jumps out at ya! Wow, what a picture!

Sound, was awesome, very clean and crisp!

Overall, a big improvement from both my previous two players! A hands down winner, what can I say, pick one up if you're in the market for a player or even an upgrade.
