Pioneer DV-09: This is an excellent DVD and CD player. The picture quality is terrific, probably more limited by the monitor's quality than the DV-09's output. I'm curious to see it with a component capable monitor rather than the s-video hookup I'm using on my present set. The on-screen menu system provides a multitude of audio and video settings by is a mild pain to navigate (as are most menu systems in my experience). CD playback is terrific -- extremely transparent with excellent body and precision. It is a large step up from the Marantz CD63SE/Musical Fidelity X-10D combo I had. Nearly revelatory vs. this prior playback system on my very revealing system. It is also built extremely well. One caveat: current DVD players may not be compatible with the coming DVD-Audio standard. We should all get on the horn about this -- if they have they're way and adopt Meridian Lossless Packaging as the standard, it will leave a few million of us who bought DVD players before they adopted an audio standard in a costly and kind of disgusting lurch. The DV-09 is great, but expensive for something that may not play future audio discs. Having said that, and to repeat, this is a terrific audio/video player, probably as good as anything out there.

After 1 month with the DV-09 I have found it a very good unit, audio and video are the best. The only problem I have found is with the disc tray you have to be careful placing the disc in and make sure it is seated well or it will not play, the sides of the disc opening are not as deep and squared as other players I have owned and used. This is not a player you can open and just drop a disc in and fiddle with in a dark room. Anybody looking for a full feature high quality player the DV-09 deserves a look.

I love it it is my favorite part of my home theater. Considering i'm the only person I know with a real DVD player at all (besides my friend with some trashy surround system and a cheap piece of crap DVD player) it is very good and worth the money.

Hello,

IF YOU DONT OWN IT, DONT POST IT!!!!!!!!!!

Considering the DV-09? Good Choice! We sell the Elite DV-09 / Denon DVP-5000 / Sony DVD-S7700. This is not a comparison review! The way all my reviews will be. OK, the review.

The Elite DV-09 is a master piece! It is alot easier to list the defaults vs. a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

1. Will not play recorded CD-R's: Would be nice since they produce a CD-R burner (Elite PD-R99).

2. DVD/CD tray needs to be a deeper: Possile misload would be a costly expense.

3. Slow access from track to track: Lets say you want to track search ">>)" from song 4 to 8 it hesitates.

4. Eject / Shutdown: Your finished with a DVD or CD you hit eject then wait for tray to come out then you grab the disc then power.....nope. Instead you grab the disc have to hit reload and wait for the silent chamber (tray) to close and cover door to shut then power (5 sec). Should have made a macro on the ower button!

5. DTS sticker! You mean a person spends $2000 + and gets a sticker......Come on!

These are very minute problems but definetly something Elite should recognize! It often make me wonder how issues like these can be overlooked. Overall this player is AWESOME!
In end result if considering a DVD/CD player I rank it within the Top three. I will give this player 4.5 out of 5. Got to go, take care.........

Good picture quality, Good build quality, Good value after I opened the case. I used it on my Theta DS Pro, it is a good transport. The built in D/A is just OK. It is better than average DVD. Digital out feature is a plue however it lacks the balance outputs. For less than $2000, is it a good value/performace comparing to some ultra high end (price) products.

Plays beautifully. Audio is excellent. Good transport for CDs. Awesome picture. However, the remote stinks. If you want a state of the art picture, this is the piece for you. Pic is sharper than Sony. Otherwise comparable. Sony remote kills the Pioneer piece. Sony is also easier to use and controls are better thought out.

The DV-09 is my latest toy that recently replaced the 7700 and here are my observations between the two since I had an oppurtunity to do an a/b right in my home:Picture quality: DV-09 is a winner. The 7700 though seems to have a very slight edge on color saturation otherwise DV-09 smokes Sony on picture clarity and sharpness.
Userfriendliness: Sony beats out DV-09 on this one mainly due to DV-09's flimsy remote control (it is emtremely hard to use or see or feel in darkness).
Sound Quality: DV-09 wins on both transport and analog outs. In CD music playback: Sony though has a bit more air at the very top end but kind of edgy around the acoustical guitar where DV-09 is very smooth and refine with more full body at vocals/midrange. In AC3 sound: DV-09 seems to have an edge in overall sound reproduction as a transport via a digital coax to my Denon AVP-8000 prepro with better bass controlled and movies's dialogs are a bit more refine than Sony.
Build Quality: no brainer; DV-09.

A question for any of the DV-09 users out there that when I am trying to change the factory defaults picture settings such as arts, sports or standard by using the "mode" command on remote control. None of this seems to do a darn thing to change the overall picture appearance at all on my RPTV (I am using component video signals). What have I done wrong? Any hints? Please share with me your experience on this.
I'd give Sony a four stars with DV-09 a 4.5 stars.

I have to agree with most of Tom's observations on the 7700 vs. DV-09 debate:1. The Sony remote is much better, the DV-09's is an ergonomic disaster, but functional.
2. The Sony has better color saturation and smoothness, the DV-09's picture is sharper and clearer. This was using a Sony KP-61V75(4:3). The Sony was slightly better at downconverting widescreen DVD's. So, I guess I'd have to call the picture contest about even.
3. Soundwise this is another close call. I'll have to give the nod to the DV-09, if only for not downconverting it's digital outputs from 96khz/24bwl to 48/20.
4. After owning both of these players, I'd say this debate is a win/win situation. You can't go wrong, with either one.
5. Build quality? The Pioneer wins, but it will cost you $400-$600 more.

I purchased the DV-09 about 2 weeks ago. The clarity and sharpness of the picture is incredible. IMHO, the detail and sharpness rivals that of film. I have never seen a picture that matched anything close to this before. I agree with others that the color saturation may be the only complaint, but it's a small one at that (almost none from me)The cosmetics of the player are unrivaled. With its wood side panelling and incredible transport, this player is studly!!!! The copper chassis gives it a nice feel for "high-end" equipment too.
I am running the player with a Pioneer VSX-29TX and the sound is incredible. It is clear, crisp, and get hit all the deep bass produced by movie or CD. The vocals are rich and detailed.
The only problem that some may have is the lip sync problem which I have seen at times....but it might have been the movie ADR itself. I'm still looking into this controversy. I have only experienced it on a minute number of discs.
Overall, I highly recommend this player of you want to be fully satisfied with a picture that will be unrivaled from any other player in the business!!!!!
