Strength:
Good music playback. Reads all DVD movies without any issues.
Weakness:
It is now an old machine. Although I never experienced any failures, others report a different story. Must have had a bad production run. The Pioneer DV-333 has been reliable for over 5 years. Newer machines have better video performance. But the music playback is just excellent in the low price range of the DVD-333. I was hooked on the rave reviews of the new Toshiba 3950 last year (2004). Great for DVD movies, the Toshiba 3950 music playback was simply horrid! Then, I performed the 'Secret CB' type mods from the 'audiophiles' best advice on the internet audio sites. Still a load of $hit folks. Similar Products Used: Toshiba 3950. |

Strength:
plays about anything
Weakness:
remote, sometimes the disc tray is reluctant to stay open when you want it to. Fairly good player for the money. Keeps going and going. Will play any DVD, CD, or CD-R you put in the tray. Similar Products Used: Yamaha, Sony |

Everything!
Weakness:
Nothing! I thought it might be of interest to some readers out there, that this little unit does have somethig to offer. Since purchasing this item a few years ago and having to go through 4 other players before then, I've not a single negative thing to say about it. This unit has played everything that I throw at it. It offers more features than other players on the market, given that it was released before progressive scan or mp3. This unit is also region free and code free automatically, so you can watch pal discs or dub ntsc discs to tape without a rediculous complex code of buttons to press, which to me comes in very handy. It also plays cd, cdrw, dvdr, dvdrw and video cd. Awsome resume capabilities. If you turn off the power, it remembers the last position of the disc, unlike some units I've come across. Not to mention a ton of other useful features which are all accessible from the remote. It's too bad if your item failed after a short time, that can happen and you can return it. However, mine is still partying like it was 1999! P.S. This unit is the heart of my dedicated 100" front project theater, and also supplies video to other rooms of the house. Thanks for your time. Strength:
None - everything is average.
Weakness:
Broke after 6 months. I got the DV 333 last Christmas and watch about 3 DVD's per month. Last week it stopped working - insert the disc, screen goes black. It's in the repair shop now, which will cost a minimum of $50. Needless to say, not pleased. Considering I clean it with a Lens cleaning disc once a month and hav watched minimal movies on it, very poor. Similar Products Used: Toshiba DVD |

Strength:
Makes a good boat anchor (must supply own rope).
Weakness:
Complete lack of operationality. When it worked, this player was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, the "working" period wasn't very long. About two months after I got it, it started to periodically freeze. Then it developed a problem opening the tray drawer. Then it wouldn't open the drawer at all and I had to take the cover off the top to load and retrieve discs. Then it wouldn't play at all. Oh yeah, then I looked on their web-site to see if there were recommended fixes. Despite the apparent prevalence of these problems, they weren't even MENTIONED on the web-site. When I wrote Pioneer customer service support an angry e-mail, they responded two weeks later, got my name wrong (how the heck do you do that, I mean it's just hitting the "reply" button), and basically suggested that I take the thing to a repair shop. I have vowed never to purchase another Pioneer product ever again, and I told them I'd be telling anyone who'd listen not to purchase one either. You've been warned. Similar Products Used: This is not the first Pioneer laser-based product that I've had worlds of problems with. I also bought one of their CD players when they first came out in the mid -80s. Strength:
Great audio and video reproduction when new.
Weakness:
Not made to last for everday use. I've owned this unit for 2 yrs and for the 1st yr and a half it worked fine. About 6 mos ago it started not being able to read CD's and would kick open the drawer. Then the drawer would not stay open at all. I had to hold it with my hand to insert a disc. Then the drive mechanism started becoming loud. I believe this unit falls under the category of "programmed obsolecence" . Works fine for a year or so and then KABOOM. Everything starts breaking down. I can't recommend this product for daily use since it's life expectancy isn't that good. |

Strength:
When it worked it seemed good very few freezes, good sound.
Weakness:
Poor remote I used to think this was a great machine for the money until after very moderate use it no longer plays. The local tech says it may be a little gear which would set me back about $110. Why when a new one is $175? |

Strength:
Great audiovideo quality for the price. Also nice look and easy to use.The biggest plus- Great Value
Weakness:
Overall the whole thing seems pretty rickety and flimsy.Tray is kinda loud when opening and closing, but who cares. How many times do you open and close it? The remote sorta sucks, buttond are too small. I bought this DVD player about two years ago. When i bought it,i was only 15 years old. I thought it was a good DVD player but as i have gotten older i have realized some problems. First, the tray is very rickity and feels like i am going to break it if i touch it.The connectors also seem a little flimsy. But besides that i am very happy with its audio and video. It is hooked up to a Denon AVR-1802 with boston acoustic VR-940''s. The sound is great. The video also impresive for its price. Overall i would say get this DVD player if you want good audiovideo and no bells and whistles. A great product for the money.
