Strength:
Beats the Toshiba and Panasonic without a sweat, Only $250 at local store, The new reference standard video player,
Weakness:
Not built like a tank, Remote completely sucks the big one The picture is clearer and even more three dimensional then the Toshiba and Panasonic offerings. They should be ashamed because they charge so much up to $2000 for those other brands. This Progressive Player only sells for $250 at my local video store here in NY. It has preorders up the wazoo and they are sold out or have not been available yet in some areas I heard. I guess I'm one of the lucky few that can appreciate this tremendous bargain. What can beat this performance and price, Can anyone tell me. Similar Products Used: Toshiba 6200 and Panasonic DVD H1000 |

POOR REMOTE(GET A PRONTO) hANDS DOWN THE PIONEER IS THE BEST PROGRESSIVE DVD PLAYER ON THE MARKET...AT LEAST FOR THE TIME BEING. AN ELITE MODEL IS SOON TO COME OUT, BUT IT WILL COST AROUND $1200. THIS PIONEER IS TRUE PROGRESSIVE SCAN UNLIKE THE PANASONIC MODEL WHICH INCORPORATES A LINE DOUBLER AND $2200 PRICE TAG. BUT ALAS...MY WORDS AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO ACCURATELY DESCRIBE THIS PRODUCT...GO TO YOUR LOCAL ELECTRONICS RETAILER AND GET A DEMO. Similar Products Used: TOSHIBA, PANASONIC |

Outdone by non-progressive players DO NOT BUY. PIONEER LIES! This player is NOT better than a standard player coupled to a HDTV-ready TV. |

Strength:
Clear picture, clean sound, progressive scan, fast resume.
Weakness:
Remote I have been reading complaints about this unit not being a true progressive scan player because it doesn't do 3/2 pulldown. However it's half the cost of all the others I've looked at and the progressive scan setting is noticably better than interlace on my Sony XBR400. Since I am unable to afford a "real" progressive scan player, there were no other options for me. But I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I got more than what I payed for. |

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HITACHI HDTV READY DTV I wish I had read the review by Alex before I ordered this DVD player. My Hitachi 61" widescreen mdl# 61SWX01W arrived yesterday and I hooked up the DVD. I had reservations about ordering it as Pioneer warns it may not be compatible with some progressive scan TV's. I was going to get the JVC but took a chance on Pioneer and lost. The picture will go to black and pause. What little I saw of A Bug's life special edition was spectacular. Im returning this tommorrow and ordering the JVC. Similar Products Used: Pioneer 414 |

Good picture, good menu's
Weakness:
Remote, scanning, looks and feels cheap I originally purchased a Sony machine but had problems with horizontal lines scrolling up the screen on every DVD I watched. They were thin, white lines that appeared the first time I started watching the first DVD. My JVC AV-27150 is not even a year old and my interconects, including the S-cable, are Monster Cable so I figured the problem was probably in the Sony. I returned the Sony for another machine, albeit the same model, but I still had the same problem. I then tried a Denon player but did not like the picture very much. I looked at a JVC in the store, hooked up to the same TV I own, but the picture was very grainey and harsh. I settled on a Panasonic and was pleased with it for about 88 days. On the 89 day horizontal, needle-like images began to appear on both sides of the screen. I took it back to Sears and, bless there patient hearts for putting up with all of my fuss, they took it back. (I had purchased a two year extended warranty which is probably why they were so compliant. I believe they normally have a 30 day return policy otherwise.) Well anyway, I exchanged the $300 Panasonic for the Pioneer even-up, the Pioneer being on sale. I am not sure what the original price of the Pioneer was, maybe $400-450? Strength:
It is True progressive scan and the picture is excellent, Unit is quiet, plays everything you throw at it
Weakness:
Cheaply made with no extra frills. I have been reading all the crap about this unit not being TRUE progressive scan etc etc. First off its either interlaced or progressive with nothing in between so the word "TRUE" has no meaning in this area. I would ask all those with doubts to read the nov/dec issue of "Perfect Vision" where you will see that they do consider this unit to be Progressive Scan. Lastly common sense should tell you that Pioneer would have the biggest class action lawsuit if it wasnt progressive. I think the problems that many people are having is with there TV's. If you use a sony xbr400 unit you will see the big differences between the interlaced mode and the progressive mode. It all gets too technical for a quick review but trust me that you cannot go wrong buying this unit. It's not the best made or certainly not the fanciest but if your main interest is to watch the best picture for under $400 then this unit is your best bet. Anyone tell you different it's because they have a $1500 dvd and are pissed that for under $300 you might be watching 99.9% of the same quality picture that they have. Strength:
Picture quality, sound, lots of features for the money.
Weakness:
seems light and cheap, menu's, Nice unit, my first DVD player other than the output from my pc DVD ROM, so it was nice to finally hear DTS. The picture quality is superb, with black blacks, bright colors and vidid images. The sound is first rate using the optical outputs. Can't wait to by a progressive capable tv so I can try that out. Using a 8 yo Sony 27" Trinitron, but it has neve looked better. The LCD display colors match my receiver perfectly. Similar Products Used: Pioneer DVD ROM w/hardware decoder |
