WARNING WARNING WARNING COMPLETE FAILURE OF NEW UNIT--ERROR MESSAGE SDSP RWER (FIRST S STANDS FOR "SERVO") THIS UNIT COULD TAKE WEEKS TO REPAIR, IF THEY HAVE THE PART. IS THIS TYPICAL FOR PIONEER RELIABILITY? ARE OTHER UNITS HAVING THIS PROBLEM??? IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH VALUE THERE IS IN THE APPLIANCE IF IT STOPS WORKING SOON AFTER PURCHASE. NOT WORTH THE HASSLE. DON'T PATRONIZE UNRELIABLE MANUFACTURERS. JUST BECAUSE A CONSUMER PRODUCT IS INEXPENSIVE DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT'S OK IF THE PRODUCT COMPLETELY FAILS A SHORT TIME AFTER PURCHASE. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR." IT HAS TO DO WITH 'SOMEONE IS CHEATING YOU AND YOU BETTER WATCH OUT' |

Remote I have used this for 3 month now and it's still going strong. The picture is much better then the sony player costing $400. I use the DV-434 on a Panasonic CT-32HX40 HDTV. I get a much better picture haveing the DVD output at 480 interlaved and then have the TV turn it into 480p. If I output on the DVD in progressive (bypassing the line doubler in the tv) the picture is not as sharp, but less artifacts. I tried a friends DV-37 and outputing from it in progressive was much better. But there is a $400 price difference. I recomend this player over Sony units. I just wish the remote was like the one with the DV-37, I like the jog/advance wheel. |

Strength:
great picture and sound
Weakness:
none yet I replaced mu DV333 with this unit. I figured for 10.00 more I might as well have the progressive output. I also like the addition of a dimmer. I personaly love this product for the price I paid of 189.00 from Costco. Highly recomended for a budget player. Similar Products Used: Pioneer DV-333, Toshiba 2200 |

Strength:
Easy setup. Good output. Plays CD-R, CD-RW
Weakness:
Switch to progressive scan on component video on NTSC set will blank the screen. Fairly plain appearance, basic remote. First of all, throw out all the reviews from the people that don't own the set. You know, the ones that completely trash this nice player. Even Home Theater Magazine could hardly find any difference in picture quality between this set and models that cost 20 times as much! It does not have 3:2 pull down. It has progressive output. It is better than most set line doublers if only because there are two less D/A A/D conversions to make. It does not weigh very much, but if they concealed 20 lbs of lead in the bottom would people think it is a better unit? The unit is not aesthetically distinctive,i.e., it looks plain. That's why they only sell the high dollar units with cool aesthetics. The remote is basic, so get a component with a good remote that can control it or something like a Pronto. The picture looks great. It outputs good audio. It plays CD-R and CD-RW audio discs. Unless you need a combo unit that plays all five of the available SACD or DVD Audio discs, how can you go wrong? I have had the Pioneer DV-434 progressive scan player hooked up to the the Panasonic CT-32HX40 HDTV for a day now. I have been switching between progressive and interlaced output on the DV-434 and the picture was alot clearer when haveing it outputed at 480i and having the TV turn it into 480p. When I turned on the progressive on the dvd, the picture became blured and fuzzy. I adjusted the sharpenss, but this didn't help. I guess this means that Similar Products Used: Sony 570D DVD |

progressive scan, digital outputs, plays cd-r's

none so far I comparison shopped this at Sears for $204, which puts a nicer DVD player in the price range of the cheap models. I had used a RCA model which someone had given me, but it sometimes skipped or momentarily froze, etc. This DVD player, on the other hand, has so far functioned flawlessly Similar Products Used: RCA |

Does anyone know how this player stacks up to the Sony 570D. The Pioneer is selling for $250 with progressive and the Sony 570D is twice as much without progressive. Please E-Mail me with comments. Thanks. |

Strength:
Beautiful picture & sound. No problems so far.
Weakness:
Remote buttons are small for my hand and not backlit. Makes use in a "movie lit" room hard. Remote functions are great. I've always heard nothing but praise for Pioneer video players. I'm here to tell you, as a former non-believer, it's all true! This HAS to be the best value out there by far.I was unable to find anything even close to this price with these features. The folks I bought it from shipped it the day after I ordered it. Set up and functions are a breeze. Have loved it ever since. Similar Products Used: Cambridge Sound Works DVD-106E |

Great Picture Quality
Weakness:
remote This is my first DVD player so I can't compare it to anything else. So far it has preformed flawlessly!!! Picture quality in interlaced mode on my old anlog tv, (1986, 25" Sylvania) is fantastic. Beautiful, vivid color with no problems whatsoever. Audio hooked up to my surround sound speaker system is sharp and crystal clear. Will be buying progressive scan digital tv in the future when prices go down and quality goes up (i'm in no hurry). Remote control has too many buttons on it and is very confusing, however I just use the play button mostly, (doesn't everybody). Similar Products Used: none |
