Pioneer DV 444 DVD Players

Pioneer DV 444 DVD Players

DESCRIPTION

Pioneer combines form with function in its progressive scan DVD player, the DV-444. This full-featured, single-play DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/VCD/MP3 player offers quality performance with a slim, stylish, silver exterior.

The DV-444 provides film-like quality images with the integration of digital progressive scan output. To accomplish this, the player processes the signal from the DVD disc purely in the digital domain to minimize signal loss. The DV-444 then outputs a signal with twice as much information as a conventional interlaced DVD player. This faster processing virtually eliminates all jagged edges and creates a very smooth, film-like picture.

The DV-444 has the ability to play multiple music formats including the widely popular MP3 format. The unit takes a technological leap forward with the MP3 format, providing cataloging and on-screen menu features to utilize the storage capacity of CD-R/RW discs. The menu allows for simple navigation and song selection with easy use of the remote. The device also automatically decodes MP3 encoded content.

Providing superior sound as well, the DV-444 offers 192kHz/24-bit Burr Brown audio DAC. It combines a sophisticated noise shaping technology, excellent operating stability, wide dynamic range and an extra high signal-to-noise ratio of 105dB.

Strength:

Plays MP3 CD-Rw CD-R Automatic sonefree. Looks good Very fast RGB out. Don''t have DD, DTS decoder

Weakness:

Would be great with mic in for karaokee

The first reason for buying this unit, was the ability to play MP3 CD-r, CD-rw. I have been waiting for a great DVD-player without DD, DTS Decoder. This has been a prob. since all the good players with RGB ect. also had DD DTS Decoder. The reason for this is that I have it on my Reciver, and don''t want to pay for it on my DVD player. All the MP3 CDs CD-r VCDs I have tried on it, works perfect. I also love that you can see what kbps the MP3 is. 192 kbps is a must for keeping great HIFI sound on MP3s. Another thing that I love is how fast it is. I hate to wait 15 sec. to load a CD ect. This unit is the fastest I have seen. This is the DVD player I have been waiting for. This completes my needs for now! next year I don''t know =)

Strength:

Great picture and excellent sound.

Weakness:

For the money, none.

At this price the picture and sound cannot be beaten. It outperforms decks costing much more. Might not have all the bells and whistles but for me it''''s about performance on the screen - not wether it takes a nano-second longer to load!

Strength:

Excellent sound, price (199.00 online), very slimline, MP3 random play

Weakness:

Archaic text menu design, video quality not as sharp as it should be with a SVideo cable.

Strength:

Looks, fine build, fits in any interior,

Weakness:

you cant turn off the video circuit.

Beyond the great looks, you find a real schmoove player. Loading of disc goes fast, i have no idea about mp3. When it starts up or finishes reading a disc you hear a silent buzz but that is certainly not disturbing. When it is powered off you can just press play and it starts up, a neat function i think. The navigator to set-up the video is real easy, the remote is also easy to understand. Dvd playback is fast and precise, picture quality is something i will not review as i only watch it on my tv and it is very okay! Cd playback is excellent too, the lf are nicely rounded of and it presents a clean, clear musical picture. It can never compete with a real cd-player but for the price payed it does it all fine. You cannot turn off the display but you can choose what it displays, instead of showing all the data on the disc it can only display the word cd. I like that better. Connections are pretty standard, optical, coaxial and scart are provided. There is no 5.1 out but that is no problem as most receivers have a better decoder built in. There is also a possibility to use an other power cord if you prefer. For this kinda money pioneer has made an excellent player that is one of the thinnest around and looks pretty damn good.

Strength:

CD/CD-R/CD-RW (even unfinalized) MP3 playback, MPEG2 decoder, DVD/DVD-R/DVD-RW playback

Weakness:

Remote control, no search on VCD mode

I am very impressed, as it is my first dvd-player. I made a research before and I came across a fact that only similar Toshiba players can compete.
I am pleased with the GUI, that properly displays 8-symbol MP2/MP3 file names showing all the directories in root, even if some data files exist. Ability to read damaged and unfinalized CD matrices is another advantage.
The loading time is ok, though it could be shorter.
The remote control actually sucks ass, but you actually cant ask more for that price.
Im looking forward to test some DVD-RW as well.

Strength:

Very slim, (flattest player on the market), silver looks great, just enough buttons on the front, all the connections you need. Audio and video circuits are seperate

Weakness:

No dolby digital/dts decoder, only digital out, remote...

I just bought this player yesterday and haven't been able to use it for movies but only for music. My old cd-player was a mdx/d3 (sony), i totally hear the difference. Stereo image is deeper, bass is rounder and the overall response is a lot better. It is a quick player too, insert the disc and in no time you are playing. It uses less than 1 Kw when you put it on standby so it surely will not cost a lot. When you listen closely you can hear the driver when he loads and reads, i don't think it wil be a problem when you are playing music. I'm very happy with it and cannot wait to hook it on to my tv. I'll come back later on its movie strenghts or weaknesses. The thing i liked when i bought it was that i got 5 dvd's for free. You never know do you...

Slim design, silver color, progressive scan, mp3 capability, Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, all connection types.

Weakness:

REMOTE!!! (but can you really expect a good remote for a DVD player.)

So far I'm very pleased with this player. As mentioned above, I haven't really found a big weakness besides the remote (which I have replaced with a Sony RM-AV2100) I've only used it for 2 monthes but haven't had problems. I wouldn't pay the full price of $450, but for the $200 I paid, which was brand new, not refurbished like most UBid stuff, then I would recommend buying it.

Strength:

Model 440. Analogue audio output quality, plays CD's and DVD music with excellent clarity and balance. Fast loading and navigation. Good picture quality.

Weakness:

The model 444 does not have 3:2 pull down progressive. No zoom features.

Based on a DV440. For a simple dvd machine, this is an excellent choice. Good progressive machines cost much more than the 444, wait a few years for the Sage chipset to flourish. The CD playing ability, 2 channel, of this unit is awesome. The Burr Brown DAC's offer a soundstage that is wall to wall and deep. The harmonics are right, and the bass is reasonable. For Pro Logic owners, this machine will light up your system. Hint, try DVD music titles in the SRS surround mode, two channel. Not too spacey sounding and it drops the level of the vocals, allowing the music to emerge. The remote fits your hand, and the two main buttons are right there under your thumb. The resume feature is usefull, as is the memory resume feature when the dvd is removed.
