Strength:
Excellent video quality Plays SACD and DVD-Audio disks Properly working bass management for those of us who persist not using a subwoofer.
Weakness:
No tint control for video calibration. This little player works well and comes through with many features. In addition to playing DVD Videos, it plays SACD's and DVD Audio disks. I have had mixed results with DVD-R's, most often unable to play the audio portion of a disk (recorded on a Pioneer DVD-R recorder). Compared to the Elite DV-45A, I missed the "auto progressive" feature and the ability to adjust tint for video calibration. DVD Audio and SACD sounded a bit more harsh to me than the DV-45, perhaps because it has only a single audio DAC or because there is no ability to shut off the noisy video circuits while playing these advance disks. Unlike the DV-45A, however, its "bass management" or "bass steering" feature worked properly, so I was able to experience full range sound (including deep bass) from the discrete analog outputs without a subwoofer. I found it to be a highly versatile product for the price. Similar Products Used: Pioneer Elite DV-45A JVC XV-D723 |
