Strength:

3-disk changer, plays CD-RW, every connection you can imagine, near flawless playback.

Weakness:

Kind of Noisy

I've had this player for about 3-4 months; I've played a LOT of CD's on it, a few VCD's a few times, and quite a bit of DVD's as well, throughout them all, I've really only had one incident, and it was with "The Matrix" DVD. About 3/4 ways through the movie, the audio died. And it was really embarrassing too because I had a couple audiophile friends over at the time and they were booing and heckling while I was trying to figure out what was going on. I took out the brand new disk to make sure nothing was wrong with it, and put it back in, skipping to the scene where we left off, and it did again! Now they were really laughing and making jokes so I tried it a third time and luckily it worked.
The next day I played the movie the WHOLE way through, didn't get a skip, hop, bump, nothing, it played perfectly. To this day I don't know what happened but I know it never happened again, and I've watched "The Matrix" at least a half a dozen times since then. Because of that one incident I can't give this player 5 stars overall, but for the value you can't beat it, I paid $260 shipped and I'd probably be willing to pay the same $ for it today.

The remote's not great but it does the job; the changing feature is annoyingly loud though. The image is great with Component, I haven't tried composite or S-video, but I'd imagine they're no where near as good as Component (maybe S-video is) Other than that, there isn't much more to say... this is simply a great player.

Strength:

Internal Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, DTS out, 3-disk carousel, customizable for any system(5.1,prologic,2-channel).

Weakness:

None.

I have had this DVD player for about a month and I am glad I purchased this model. I just love the 3-disk carousel, I can put in 3 movies and switch from one to the next with just a push of a button on the remote. No more getting up and manually switching DVDs. Plus the price is very reasonable for a multi-disk player($350), less expensive than a 5-disk player and more convient than a single disk player. There are many options that you can set to customize the player, including a screen saver to protect your projection tv. The setup was a breeze with the onscreen setup wizard, you just customize the player for youe specific system from easy to follow menus. I would highly recommend this player to anyone, from the enthisiast to the novice.

Strength:

Changer, Dolby Decode w/analog outputs, component output. Plays CD-R's

Weakness:

FF and Reverse show problems.

This unit seemed to work very well. It played several movies without any problems. It did not have a noticable delay during layer changes, and the image quality was quite good at times. The analog AC-3 outputs gave good sound, but I do not have a great setup for evaluating this. The player played all my CD-R's which was great, but it sounded a little different than my CD player. I found the changer a real advantage to this product given it's price. I did however run into a big problem with the unit that forced me to return it. Whenever I used the fast forward or reverse controls the player would break up in both the picture and sound. It was then unable to continue playing correctly. I had to stop the player and then restart the DVD. The player had difficulty with picture-in-shuttle modes on several DVDs, showing MPEG decoding errors and muting (sometimes) the audio. One one occasion it locked-up with a fixed picture with obvious blocking (MPEG decoding errors) and produced a loud buzz on the audio. I had to stop the player to remidy this situation. Has anybody else encountered these problems? This happened on more than one DVD, but I was mostly using "The Matix" as my evaluation DVD. I have a little difficulty with the diversity of image quality for a given DVD but this probably more related to the encoding of the movie than the player. Are DVD bitstreams generated using variable bit rate encoding, or is it fixed rate (5-6 Mb/s)? In all I would still have this player if it did not have the problems I encountered with it . I would give it 5 starts otherwise.

Strength:

3 dvd changer for great price
s-video and composite video outputs
great sound and picture quality
optical and coax digital outputs.

Weakness:

a little loud when changing disks and while playing them.
Build quality of cabinet makes unit feel cheap

I am very pleased with my selection. The sound and piture quality is great. The DTS mode works very well. I have not used the internal DD decoder.

I have not experienced any of the problems of the previous reviewer, and I have watched the Matrix several times. On some movies, I do notice a brief pause of all video and audio, but I took these same movies to the store where I bought the DVD player and the movies had the exact same problems on every DVD player we tried, including the real high end ones; so I can't blame this player.

I really like the ability to random play all selections from all CD's inserted (my previous CD changer doesn't have that option, and this is the main reason I upgraded from the dvd-414).

Overall this is a great value and a great product; and this is coming from someone who has never been a fan of Pioneer products.

Strength:

built in dolby digital decoder, plays cdr's & cdrw's perfectly.

Weakness:

remote control should be backlit.

I bought my machine for 399.00 from circuit city and I have no regrets. the player is hooked up to a yamaha rxv592 receiver (dolby digital ready). The built dolby digital decoder does a great job. Picture quality is great on my 27 inch panasonic using a monster s-vhs cable. CDR and CDRW capability is great. Solid dvd changer.
