Strength:

Everything. This product has great video qualtiy and audio quality.

Weakness:

Nothing I can think of.

This product is great. For those looking to buy it, the remote is not cluttered and it's real easy to use. The first time setup is also easy.

I especially like the fact thats its a 5-disc player. Its quiet and I really can't find anything wrong. If I do, I'll write a follow up on it.

Strength:

Video playback, convenience, plays cdr

Weakness:

remote

I bought this changer to simplify my HT setup and to spin continuous music. (My universal remote doesn't run the AMC, bad SAF karma) It's decently built. Picture quality is a definite improvement over my Tosh. DVD audio about the same. The supplied remote is adequate at best. It does do a credible job on my CDRs (big bonus). When compared to my AMC the soundstage is flatter, with a bit too much sizzle. The turntable advance buttons are small and hard to use. The one speed FF/REV is a definite pain. The CD only mode is handy if you like to leave the tray loaded. (Just plays audio CDs when there are DVD and CD's in the tray)

Great value for the money. If you are a serious listener you might not like the onboard DACS. Overall, a great deal of product for the money. Not an audiophile/videophile product but definitely worth considering for those who want a reasonably priced unit that will play everything.

Strength:

5 disk, CDR, CDR/W, VCD compatability. CD mode. Quiet & smooth.

Weakness:

Remote is bad and a smooth rewind/ ff would be nice.

I picked this up as my first DVD purchase. I was sitting at lunch, and decided I needed to buy one. Now, I have been looking for awhile, so knew what features I was looking for. This one mainly sold me on the 5 disc changer. I had wanted a new CD player too, and this fits perfectly. If I use CD mode only the CDs loaded are played. It has random play supporting random disc and random song, so you can play random from one disc, or across all 5. I have watched about 8 movies so far, and have had one freeze frame for a second at most (Final Destination). This was rental so it may have been a scratch, or the layer change? New, so not sure exactly what that means. I am amazed by the sound & video. I have it hooked up to the TV with S-Video jack, everything is sharp and colorful. Very happy with my purchase.

Strength:

Setup, onscreen menus. Plays almost everything.

Weakness:

Really awful remote.

The sound (optical) and picture (S-video) are better than expected. It plays everything I have, except for MP3's. The remote is definitely a POS. Forget trying to use it in the dark. The setup was easy enough. Pls. email me at rkcrawf@yahoo.com if you have any ideas on playing MP3's from CD-R. My rating does not reflect the lack of MP3 ability, though.

Strength:

EVERYTHING!

Weakness:

No region hack...but BIG DEAL!

Well, this is just an update. I've now had this wonderful unit for over 2 months and no problems! If only Pioneer would develop the digital zoom that Toshiba has, they would have THE PERFECT DVD PLAYER! You cant go wrong with this puppy...but remember! it's still an electronics product! GET the extended warranty...you'll sleep better at night.

Weakness:

none

I considered many players before I decided to go with this one. I was looking for best bang for the buck. I was able to find a low price on the net and Sears matched it plus S&H.

It offers many options to connect to whatever audio/video souces you might have. It plays 5 discs and it will play my CD-R's and CDR-W's. The value and versatility of this machine is what made it appeal to me most.

I noticed that the remote for this unit has been criticized quite a bit. I have never known a remote that was easy to use right away. They all take some getting used to. Let it grow on you.

I have not owned this player long so I cannot comment on it's quality and durability at this time. I will wait a few months and comment on that too.

By the way I watched Dumb&Dumber and The Patriot. They both looked and sounded incredible.

Strength:

Plays every fromat I can throw at it. Works flawlessly and easily. I like the multiple format out puts but don't have the monitor yet that can take advantage of progressive scan features.

Weakness:

The non-backlit remote is the worst piece of crap I've ever seen!!! Small buttons, minimal labeling. Sheesh what junk.

After much research I went with the Pioneer DVC-603. Since I can't review that product yet, I'm placing this review here on the 503 in that the primary difference between the two is the presence of "progressive scan" features. Overall I've found DVC-603 a blast to use. The GUI is intuitive, the features usuable. I found that its marvelous being able to mix my audio CD's and DVD together and be able to move between formats seamlessly and with little trouble.

Now if only Pioneer could hire some chimp to design a better remote, they'd really have something.

Strength:

Price, multiple output formats, ability to play multiple discs, did I mention price.

Weakness:

The remote could use some work, and the player itselfs makes a fair amount of noise while it is running.

This is my first DVD player. Honestly, I originally was looking for a CD player that could play mulitple discs a while back and realized that for just a few more dollars I could have a machine that did what I wanted as well as playing DVD's. And when I saw this at Costco's, with thier return policy, I figured I had to try it.

As far as it's use as a CD player, it does a great job. It played store bought CD's as well as some I burned myself (CDR & CDRW). I originally got a Denon multi-disc player, and this worked every bit as well as that Denon which cost more than twice as much without being able to play a DVD.

As far as it's use as a DVD, holly hell. Like I said earlier this is my first DVD machine, I wonder now why I waited so long to get one. The video and audio quality are unbelievable, but I guess that would be the case with any DVD. It doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that some more expensive machines have, but for the price you can not beat it. I was unable to find even a single disc machine with the same multiple video and audio outputs as this machine at this low of a price.

If you a considering this machine, do yourself a favor and just buy it already.

Strength:

great player, value, see my first review

Weakness:

?????

bad on screen graphics????????????

geez Paul, it is a damn on screen menu, who the heck cares what the graphics look like. I think that the on screen menus are very functional and easy to use, especially if you are of the primate species. generally, when I want to see good graphics, I just hit play and watch the movie. I use the menus for function, not entertainment, don't know about you!

that's gotta be the weirdest complaint that I've ever heard!!!

5 stars to make up for that mo-ron's review

Can play anyting that you put into it!

Weakness:

Remote could have been better designed

Well I have been using a Pioneer DV-414 for about 3 years with no problems at all but I felt it was time for an upgrade. I decided to pick up the DV-C503 because I have always wanted a 5 disc DVD player and the price was perfect.

I have tested this player will almost all my DVDs and VCDs with absolutely no problems. This player is a beast just like the DV-414 it can play anything!!

Now off to watch my 4 DVD set of Record of the Lodoss War in style (not having to get up is too sweet well worth the extra $50.00). If you like to watch allot of DVDs this is the player for you.
