Strength:

Small, well built, excellent quality and versatile...

Weakness:

None.

Like everyone else, I love this DVD player. It is very well built, smart, and small.

Some other GREAT features that haven't been mentioned are its great handling of CD-Rs, VCD-Rs, and even SVCD-Rs. This makes this unit a great presentation device with the ability to show your video work VERY portibly.

Also, it has an A/V input, so you can use this thing for a video monitor, or to view your VHS tape collection on.

I use it with my miniDV cam and it looks (and sounds) great.

And of course, this thing puts out a GREAT picture and sound to external monitors and amps. I would have to say of all the players I've used (see above), this one has the best picture. Also, the black finish helps make viewing on it a totally immersive experience. This is a WOW product!

Strength:

Plays a wide variety of disks, including CD-RW unfinalized and 96/24 music DVDs with digital out or through internal DAC. Super picture though external monitor or built-in LCD display. Battery life is more than sufficient to play any movie. (But I bougnt a spare and am glad I did.) The mini remote works well and all controls are intuitive. It remembers where you were on previosly played, uncompleted DVDs.

Weakness:

While sound is superb through headphones and when played through a home-theater system, the tiny built-in speakers are a bit bright and harsh, as one might expect.

This is one of those oh-so-rare products that consistently exceed expectation. The Pioneer is not the cheapest of the DVD portables available; other options include Panasonic DVDLV55 and DVDLV75, Sharp DVL70, and Aiwa XD-DW7 and DW5. It is, however, very well built. It has survived eight months of use by my three year old in the car and in restaurants (where it has more than paid for itself).

I highly recommend it!
