Strength:
Picture Quality, Ease of use
Weakness:
Slow menu functions Got this bad boy at Circuit City for $179.00. Came with S-VHS monster cable and Audio Video monster cable. It looks kinda ugly with the silver face but for the price I had to snatch it up. Played Matrix and couldn't believe what I saw. There are some things lacking like AC-3 decoder and such. However, for the price u get a quality machine that is worth every penny. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Excellent in all respects - in addition also get Monster Cable connects rather than the usual garbage.
Weakness:
Can be a little noisy when flipping between menus. This was my first venture into the Digital medium on the video side and it has been VERY costly. I love this thing so much that I've since purchased 86 DVDs, am looking at a new TV and have also purchased the Kenwood HTB-502 home theater in a box (am awaiting arrival on this one). So, I've spent over $1000 since this purchase but have loved every minute of it. This in just over 3 months. |

Strength:
Very Sturdy unit, built very well and it has a nice look to it. The player excells at layerchanges which are almost non-existant and downconversion is the in line with the reference dvp-7700 from Sony. Good number of Video connections allows for alot of flexibility. Great Unit. Oh Yeah..Price (Only 250.00!!)
Weakness:
Only an optical input for digital surround sound. I wish it would have had a coax input also. Also, that crummy DIVX label (UGH) Oh well, for the price I will live with it. Three words...BUY THIS PLAYER!!! Similar Products Used: RCA 5210p, Panasonic a120, Pioneer dv414, Sony dvp-s7700. |

Anamorphic Downconversion
Weakness:
No Coax digital out I had a hard time finding this player after trying the Toshiba (awful downconversion) and Pioneer (could hear the disc spinning in the tray). Finally managed to get my hands on an open box one for $150! Took it home, hooked it up and have watched parts of several movies. I've have been thrilled with everything except for the somewhat slow menu access. Shakespeare in Love, which showed all kinds of problems on the Toshiba, showed hardly a flicker on this one. I will say that the Toshiba has a sharper picture, but marginally so. Honestly, if I had a 16:9 TV, I would have absolutely kept the SD-2109. However, I don't, so I will keep this one. For the money and my setup, the performance can't be beat. I don't have a DD/DTS receiver yet, so I am not too concerned about the lack of a Coax out. All in all, if you can find it, I highly recommend picking this one up. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD-2109 |

Strength:
Great look, amazing picture detail
Weakness:
No coax digital in, menu slooooow, remote relly leaves a lot to be desired Great player. I've owned the 2 Toshiba players listed above and this is the best unit between the three. No audio dropouts, no glitches. Layer changes...what are those! Similar Products Used: Toshiba 2108, Toshiba 2006 |

Strength:
Picture Quality. Have not had a major DVD that has had any problems. The Matrix was superb.
Weakness:
The remote control is not very intuitive, and you have to look at it to make sure that you are pushing the correct buttons. Does not have a coaxial digital output. Is only Dolby Digital/DTS ready (not that great of a weakness). It was easy to set up. It produces a great picture. (I use a Kenwood HTB-502 system for the sound.) I recommend this DVD (DIVX?) player to all of my friends, especially those that are planning on or already have a Dolby Digital/DTS receiver. |
