Owned it for about 3 weeks, then returned it. I owned a Samsung 907 prior to this purchase and loved it. I sold it to a friend who is a movie fanatic. I bought the 909 for the added features. I bought it at shopping.com for $289 plus shipping. Great remote, very easy to use, only one problem, the picture would jump a few frames for no explicable reason. I even went back over the same area to see if it was the disc, and then it wouldn't do it. tried it on a dozen different discs. It only happened on 3 discs, none of them had a history of problems. So I sent it back. Sounds great,Great picture, great price, great remote. Hope you get one that plays with out problems. Replaced it with a Panasonic A-320. I'll post my results in a few weeks.

Strength:

NO.

Weakness:

Does not read disks after one year.

It worked good for 8 monts, after than it has started to digitalize picture. I though that it might be becaose usualy it used to happen with some of rentals and did not try to check it out, since after while it started working again. Last month it did not recognize DVD, I pooled it out and pushed back, it worked. After one year and two days it does not work at all, does not recognize any of my DVDs, CDs or whatever. Probably I am not going to call service since waranty has expired and it will probably cost more to fix it than to buy new one.

This is without a doubt the worst dvd player that I've come across. I was looking for an inexpensive unit for the bedroom laset weekend ata a local chain store. They had a pretty largr assoutment of players. I ended up picking up a lower price Sony. It didn't have the sharpest picture, but it was mostly free of artifacts. The models from Toshiba, Pioneer and Denon were close contenders. Their pictiure were mostly noise free, really detailed, but had more digital artifacts than the Sony's.

The Samsung however stood out. The picture was noisy. The picture was lacking in detail, and the picture was riddled with artifacts. It was also the only player that refused to play my recorded cdr's.

The dealer assured me the player was not defective, when I asked. If this wasdeed true, then AVOID this player like the plague.

This DVD player is absolutely great. I would recommend it to everyone. The picture quality is fantastic and the sound quality great. The remote is easy to use and all encompassing in it's commands. A nice feature is the built in Dolby Digital Decoder. I bought this unit at J & R Music World in Manhattan for $229.00, and have never regretted it. I looked at similar products from other manufacturers with similar features and they cost almost twice as much as the 909.

Weakness:

Will not play the Matrix, Blade Runner, or Armagedon...

Do not buy this unit!!! It will not play a majority of popular DVD's. Samsung is in denial on this issue. I sent it off to be upgraded and it I received it back.. a month later.. It still would not play these DVD's and many functions on the remote now result in the deadly circle with a slash... Operation is invalid... Not to mention that Blade Runner now plays, but lip-sync is totaly screwed througout the entire movie.

Samsung suggested I send it back in but could'nt guarantee that they could fix the problems... I returned in to the retailer one day before the return period ran out and bought a Sony 530d. Does'nt support HDCD CD's but who cares I have a Cal Audio CD player for HDCD play.

Strength:

Good for the money; 5.1 sound

Weakness:

none so far

This is an excellent DVD player. I didn't have any of the "matrix" or lip-sync problems people are talking about here.
The picture is clear and the 5.1 sound is excellent. I was skeptical when I bought this. The only problem I have is the slight pause between the layer changes, but even the Pioneer, Sony entry-mid level players have that problem.
