Strength:
Good picture and sound. Lots of features. Nice price.
Weakness:
Sensitive to disc flaws (will mistrack / show "digital squares" when it encounters problems with the disc). Feels a little flimsy. For a first foray into DVD, this is not bad at all. The component video outputs provide an especially clear picture, though I had to boost the color on the TV set (also a Samsung) a little to achieve the same saturation as with the composite video output (still worth it, though, since even at a higher saturation the color from the component output doesn't "bleed" like the composite does). The sound from DVDs is comparable to that of a decent mid-fi CD player. This unit also plays regular CDs but because of the sampling rate conversion (44.1 kHz to 48 kHz) I would stick to playing your CDs on a dedicated CD player. The mp3 player is nice too; though the sound quality isn't quite as good as the soundtracks from DVDs, it's very convenient for background music. It does seem relatively sensitive to flaws on the disc such as dust and scratches... To counteract this weakness, I wipe the DVDs with a micro-fibre cloth--the kind used for cleaning eyeglasses--before inserting. All in all, a more than respectable entry-level machine. Strength:
Silver color. Stinks. Periodic buzzing sound like a bad disk drive. Skips badly. Remote incomprehensible. Unfortunately, started going bad on day 32, after Best Buys return period, so they will attempt to repair it-they do not give money back. Last time I will buy there.
