Strength:
size, price, features
Weakness:
performance and compatibility I was thrilled by the price and physical footprint. However, it seriously glitched on the first three DVD's I played. It's headed back to the vendor. My new Sony 330 is more expensive but much better. |

Strength:
no strengths... honest.
Weakness:
remote, skipping, customer service (sharp), etc. Basically... DONT PURCHASE THIS UNIT. They are practically giving these away at mercata.com, and now I know why, I used it on 3 different movies... every time it would start pausing and skipping. I was disappointed from the very begining... it is a tiny weightless player, the remote is small and not organized. I think they just wanted to throw a dvd on the market and didn't start to think about design and/or function. Similar Products Used: first dvd player |

Strength:
size, hookups, price
Weakness:
remote, picky about disk surface, slow I pretty much bought this player because of the price ($200 at Costco). My roommate had a DVD-ROM in his computer and got me hooked on the quality of DVD videos. I was looking at the Panasonic DVD-A120 but saw this one with the component video, coax digital, and optical outs for only $200 and bought it. |

Strength:
Small, has all outputs
Weakness:
Messes up for no reason, slow, terrible remote layout, handles skipping badly, etc. I rented three discs to test the unit. The first was a very scratched copy of City of Angels, which it did very well on, but when it did skip, it recovered VERY slowly (a Panasonic A120 I tried it on did WAY better at recovering; a only a bit worse than the Panasonic). The next disc was Armagedon, which it would play fine for a while, and suddenly it would freeze frame for a second, sound would cut out, then it would display a frame a second later, play a short blip of sound, and keep doing this endlessly (I let it do it for a full minute). If I paused and unpaused, it would resume normal playback. If I rewound back to before the glitching began, it would play fine. It did this 4 or 5 times throughout the movie, and each time I would rewind and it would play fine. The disc was flawless. I'm not sure if it is dual layer, but I think so. I also noticed that the disc is very slow to eject, and it takes forever for things to queue up. I knew it would be a low quality play for only $180 at Costco, but this was ridiculous. Had to try it though. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Many outputs, optical digital especially. Compact shape. Great picture.
Weakness:
Occasional skipping. First DVD player, so the picture is GREAT to me. Ours does skip on occasion, usually with the dual-layer dics. But it's cured if I press pause for a few seconds. Picture is great using the S-video connection, and the optical 5.1 digital out is wonderful! Similar Products Used: none. |

Strength:
Every output a person needs. Composite, S-VHS, Component. Coax AC-3 and Toslink.
Weakness:
Remote is poorly laid out. Slow to load and play. The unit is a great deal at Costco ($299 CDN) and provides an exellent picture. I have had no problems with the unit so far, having played about 10 DVD's including the Matrix. Similar Products Used: Sony |

Strength:
Component out, optical out, decent clean picture.
Weakness:
Disappointing remote (cheap, not intuitive), slow loading, doesn't play all DVDs. Chronological events: I got a free Samsung DVD-709 with purchase of DTT2500 Desktop DD/DTS system (A nice sounding bargain in its own right at $299.00 at hifi.com!) Similar Products Used: Samsung DVD-709 |

Strength:
Small Size, good selection of outputs, plays flawlessly.
Weakness:
REMOTE CONTROL is poorly designed I only paid 183 dollars for this unit and for my needs it works flawlessly even on discs like the matrix. The design of the remote is kind of stupid but it works like a charm. |

price/performance, size, component & SVHS out
Weakness:
poor remote layout I purchased the Sharp DV-600U from Egghead.COM's online aution for $139. The unit was brand new and was manufactured in August 1999. Perhaps due in part to some earlier posts, the manufacturer has made changes to improve both performance and reliability. In the month that I have owned the unit, I have experienced none of the negative attributes read on this page. In fact, the audio quality is on par with my Sony DVP-S330 and the video quality is almost as good; some flicker was evident on only certain DVD's. Another advantage is the unit's size. It is considerably smaller than most VCR's and all other DVD players that I have seen, perhaps to conform with component stereo foot print popular today. Similar Products Used: Sony DVP-S330 |
