Strength:

This player has good audio and video when it does work. The remote is easy to use.

Weakness:

Cannot play the second half of a dvd without locking up visually and audibly. The player also locks up when playing audio cds after track 20 and will even skip to an earlier track and play while the display is frozen at 00:00.

The Sharp DV-740U comes with a fully functional, easy to use remote and has a sleek design. There are various output jacks providing a variety of connection options. The Sharp DV-740U has excellent video and audio; there is no need for equilzation, even when playing the audio through the television speakers. The Sharp DV-740U locks up during the second half of a dvd/cd being played. this can prove to be a serious drawback as the main purpose for the dvd/cd player is to provide quality performance. It will be difficult to enjoy a dvd movie during the end as the screen freezes and audio cuts in and out. Even cleaning the lens with a cd/dvd cleaning disc does not correct the problem. I also cleaned the lens with q-tip and alcohol; this led to "no disc" display when cd/dvd was inserted. This rendered the dvd player totally unusable and is now being replaced by another brand. I am disappointed in this product.
