Strength:

nothing that stands out

Weakness:

so you want a list...

I will never buy another Sony product for the rest of my life. Used to be problem free(basically). My player is a piece of garbage, probably built at 3:00 in the morning on a friday night in Hong Kong. I have 2 Sony products(car cd player-brand new does''nt work, dvd player does''nt work) My player skips all over the movie, the screen displays some kind of jibberish I cant decipher, cant play any movie with a rental store theft protection attached to it. I hate this player, I think I will buy a no name next time... Oh, one more thing- the new drive system they use which is supposedly so much better(disc rotates at 12x instead of industry standard 6-8x) is loud all the time...

Strength:

Fast loading! Nice onscreen display. Awesome remote! Rock steady on 99.9% of all DVD movies.

Weakness:

Home theater speaker tone test never worked. Toy Story 2 brings up the old sound to video synch problems the Sonys are known for.

I have to say I really did love this machine. It never exhibited any skips or freezes with any DVD no matter how abused. Features were plentiful with an easy and VERY attractive on screen menu system. Early Sonys were known to have some audio synch problems but this was suppose to be a thing of the past. I'm sorry to say that Toy Story 2 has caused me to return this machine for a new one since the dreaded synch problem has resurfaced. If Sony can make a player that gets rid of this annoying problem once and for all then I can recommend their DVDs without hesitation.

The remote is very cool with a jog/shuttle, but of course it'll probably put you back about $100 if you break it.

Strength:

It's looks and Remote, Awesome remote. Good menus I like to be able to see what's happening.

Weakness:

Doesn't play cdr's or cd-rw. Haven't tried any dvd-rw probably wont work. Just at two years old and starting to fail.

This product was purchased the month before Christmas 99. Paid allot more for this to match the rest of the system I currently have. It has worked great for a short time and within the last two months it has started jittering and freezing. So I cleaned it and it receives the C: 13 00 error when trying to clean it with a lens cleaner disk. To no avail it still skips and freezes. I just hope it is repairable, would hate to have to loose this one. But hey when you drive a Rolls Royce it ain't cheap for the oil changes if you know what I mean...

Strength:

Was nice for a while. Really liked the display on front and the remote.

Weakness:

It died in a year and a half.

I'm actually writing about my S560D. All I can say is it worked nice for a while. I had it hooked up to a 32" trinitron Wega with component video, monster cable and a monster cable fiber optic to the receiver. Sound was always great but after about a year, it started pausing and skipping all over in movies. Would sometimes freeze up and have to turn machine off. Finally it wouldn't read anything at all. Sent it in for repair evaluation. 158 dollars to repair. This machine was inside a cabinet away from dust. I feel sorry for whoever has to deal with Sony's customer service too. When you get through after 30 minutes, they'll tell you, they can't do anything. Whole system was sony with MTX speakers. I have a nice 280 dollar paper weight if anyone wants it.

Strength:

Outstanding Picture and sound. Wireless headphones are awsome.

Weakness:

Text sometimes is blurry but who cares?

This is a great unit. I have it mated to a Sony xbr 36 wega with componet cables and the Bose Lifestyle 50 surround system. The sound and picture is unbelievable from DVD's although the local 'Digital" cable (ATT) is not very clean so Sat is on the way. Paid $1950 price matched at Mag HI-FI from Curcuit City. Reg $2400.00

Strength:

Great Picture,Good Sound.Easy to set up and use.

Weakness:

None

I haved enjoyed using this DVD player ever since I took it out of the box. I hooked it up to my Sony big screen tv and my Onkyo TX-DS676 I couldn't beleive the picture it had. It was just like being at the movies with the clear picture and the great sound. I had been watching movies with a Sony VHS tape deck and the picture can't compare to the picture of the Sony DVD player. I have had it for over a year now and hadn't had a problem with it at all.
