Strength:

When it works, it works fine.

Weakness:

It is high unreliable. After my discussion with Sony support, I will never buy another Sony product again.

teh player was no good since I bought it. Sony's support was frankly rude, unresponsive, and refuses to assist in any way. From day one, playback has been unreliable. Today, the c 13 00 error occured. This is a frequent problem with this player. There are several mentions of this on the web, and Sony is completely disinterested. Kaizen? I don't think so. This is a piece of junk.

Strength:

When it worked, it worked really well. It looks nice.

Weakness:

It quit working after 2 1/2 years. And from what I've gathered, mine worked longer than most.

Bought this sucka in May of 2001. It worked great until the other day, when my wife told me it was saying "NO DISC" even when there was a disc in the tray. In doing a little bit of research, I discovered that pretty much all of America is having the same problem.

This was the first DVD player I've owned. It will also likely be the last Sony DVD player I ever own.

Strength:

Reasonable price

Weakness:

Occasional frame freezes at transitions

After I bought this unit, I started reading all the reviews and feared that my unit would be among the "lemons." I've had it since the spring of 2001, probably watch and average of 1 or 2 DVDs a month and have had no major problems with it. (I use a different player for audio CDs). There will be occasional brief freezes, but not frequent or long enough to be a big deal. Picture is solid, controls are easy enough to use. No major complaints.

It's the only DVD player I've ever used.

Strength:

Well...

Weakness:

It's a Sony. When this thing finally dies I'm getting a Panasonic or a MARANTZ.

Yeah, this is a piece of crap, but if you adjust the drive every time it starts crapping out on you it's usually good for another year. Go to http://pub128.ezboard.com/fdvdepotcustomerforumfrm9.showMessage?topicID=140.topic for instructions on how to do it. Note: I believe you need to press Title, Clear, and Power, 5 on the remote (which is different from the post). Everything else is the same.

Great for the repair shops or someone like me who likes to tinker with broken things. Mine had a blown zener diode, fuse, laser diode, and needed IC106 replaced. Was loads of fun to fix - NOT :-(

Weakness:

Read all the complaints

SONY DVP-S360 and other simular models: Thought you all will love the fact that Sony has an upgraded chip to solve the 13:00 no disc problem. I guess they forgot to tell their own service reps and anyone else for that manner!!! Goto: http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/DVDEZ.pdf and http://www.iwaynet.net/~nesda/SonyDVD.html

Strength:

Purchased this product for both A/V DVDs and audio CDs. Thus far, all works as advertised.

Weakness:

Not all of us are audiophiles and familiar with how and when to use the optical output. Learned only today that its audio only. Provide in directions when connecting to an A/V switching unit. Product does not play SVCDs, but does play VCDs.

Read on the more than one class action suits on this model. Relatively easy fix is available, depending on which of 2 boards are used by replacing a blown F402 with a thin strand of wire. Some mention a 2 hour play time when the problem raises its ugly head, non-existent on this unit. Manufacturing date on back of unit is blank, which is what the user should use as a guide; not the purchase date. So, the required product model year entry requirement for review entry is false.

Originally was using PC with DVD rom player to play DVDs via PC TV card to TV monitor input. This older model DVD rom would not play wide-screen. So, went to a component DVD player with more functiona

Strength:

nothing exceptional to report

Weakness:

Does not operate reliably

We have been disappointed with this machine. Continuous problems with C:13 errors and the inability to read video CD that play correctly in other cheaper models caused us to purchase a DVD from another maker. While we have several other Sony products their lack of support for an obviously deficient model makes this our final Sony purchase.

Strength:

Great player when it worked.

Weakness:

Fairly loud "spin-up". Problems with the "c:13" error and the "no-disk" error.

Sounds like I'm having the same problems that everyone else is having. I had the player repaired after only 6 months of use due to a "no-disk" read error. Fortunately, it was still under warranty at the time. It has worked with only minor hiccups since then, but now is beginning to act up quite a bit, even with brand new disks. After seeing all the negative reviews on this site, I have joined the class-action lawsuit (http://www.gttlawyers.com/class_dvd.htm)and hope to be compensated for this lousy piece of junk.

Strength:

None

Weakness:

C13 error, freezes momentarily between chapters, very sluggish navigation, won't play burned media

For those of you that are experiencing the C13 no disc error, here is the fix: Press DVD menu continually while the dvd is loading. This will skip you directly to the dvd menu bypassing the players media check. The player does just fine on cd's - there is no need to press menu in this case. If you didn't already make the mistake of purchasing this player, DON'T.
