Got my 530 yesterday, everything seems to be working perfectly. I have it hooked up to the component inputs on my 36" TV, GREAT PICTURE. Very sharp, detailed. I will be testing out a dts movie over the weekend, but so far Dolby Digital sounds fantastic. This player has Auto Format Decoding so it automatically plays the sound track with the most channels ie..PCM, DD or dts (feature can be turned on or off). It also has Two seperate lasers, one for DVD, and one dedicated to CD's. I've heard that alot of DVD players are really slow loading a movie, this one starts playing before I even get back to the couch. Its also very good at playing disks which are a little abused and scratched. Built in screen saver feature (particulary good for those of you with rear projection TV's). Nice remote, nothing to rave about, but easy to use. I give it 5 stars for features, performance & ease of use vs. price. |

Lip-Sync problems with new Sony units. Go get a Toshiba 3109. Best picture out there with many more features and great sound. Have had no problems with 3109 with 30 DVD's. Got the 3109 for $355 delivered. |

Great Value for 399!!! This DVD has every feature you could think of except DTS. Excellent picture and AC-3 processing! Used an Yamaha R-V1105 receiver with B&W digital series speakers and the sound/video was amazing! |

Ive had this dvd player for about 1 1/2 months and i must admit it has pleased me from the start it has many nifty gadgets and tools to use while playing a movie and the video and audio quality is fantastic, no! actually more than fantastic. Also there are no problems with any of my dvd's with this player. The player in all is probably the best compared tooo many players and for its price this machine is more than a bargin this machine should actually be more expensive for what it features in all im very very impressed with this unit. |

Could someone please post if the lip sync problem occurs in all the new sonyDVD players, or just select serial numbers? A best buy clerk told me it only occured in a few select batches, and sony recalled them and fixed it. However I had also read online it occurs in all the units. I only have about 2 more weeks to return mine, so any help would be greatly appreciated! |

In the last two months, I have tried three different DVD players: The JVC XV-501, the Pioneer DV-414, and the Sony DVPS530D. I have to say that the Sony was the best of the lot. The sound and picture of this unit is by far superior to the other units. The picture has much more clarity and color. I don't use the 5.1 outputs on this player, as my receiver has both DD and DTS processing (Denon 5700). DTS DVDs are excellent on this player. The Sony doesn't play CD-Rs, but my 13-year old Technics player does and I want to use the Sony for DVDs only anyway. For the price, this is the best of the bunch and Stereo Review's Sound and Vision Magazine this month agrees with me! |

I have had the 530 for about 2 weeks now and have watched about 8 movies. I have seen the lip-sync problem only once, but that’s still too much. Sony says to just push the Play button or the jog and it should re sync. I think I can live with that. I will test that next time. It's not the software disks as after re-watching the same movie the problem did not show up again. |

I bought the 530 a week ago for $350 locally. Picture is fantastic (Sony KV36XBR200)and I haven't noticed any lip sync problem. Remote really should be backlit and the tiny little switch for toggling between TV and DVD should be replaced with buttons. Otherwise, build quality is great. A good investment for someone who wants a decent sub-$400 unit with component and optical outs. |

Just purchased this unit for $334.00. So far I haven't notice any lip sync problems. Can anyone tell me what movies they're experiencing the lip sync problem with? The picture and sound quality is outstanding. |

I have the Philips DVD 825 and Sony DVP-S530D players at home and am comparing them both, one has to be shipped back on Monday! The build quality and style of the Sony is 100 times better than the Philips. The Sony has a lot more features. The picture is a little better. The sound... On this I can't decide. I think the Philips has a more detailed, more clear sound with more depth to the soundstage. the Sony seems characteristically bright and a little thin, as all Sony digital players seem. Not as grainy as my old SonyES CD player, though. The Philips is very unique at its price point ($299.00 from Vanns.com) in that it does have dual discrete lasers optimized for video and audio. I think it makes a differenece in the audio performance. Deciding which one to keep will be tough. |
