Strength:
The remote is very user friendly.
Weakness:
Very unreliable. I''ve had guests over to enjoy my home theater. The player would freeze up, causing me to restart the disc, search for the right chapter, and resume. This is very embarassing. This is my first DVD player, purchased in Feb, 2000. About 6 months after buying it, I began to experience problems with it freezing up. Then I started to get the C13:00 and No Disc errors, with increasing frequency. I''ve been blaming the contaminated DVDs I rent. This last Christmas, I bought a PS2, and when I''m unable to play a DVD on the S530D, I use the PS2 to play the "offending" disc. Of course, this experience has lifted the mantle of blame off of the discs and placed it squarely on the S530D. While reading reviews to prepare for the purchase of my next DVD player, I discovered that I''m not alone, and this model has some sort of epidemic failure. I am a Sony bigot. I love the company and everything they make. How they react to my problem, as I pursue resolution, will either support or erode my perception and confidence in Sony Similar Products Used: My home theater electronics system is entirely Sony. Speakers and sub woofer are Klipsch. |

DVD tray I do not recomend this product. I am having the same C13 problem. I tried to clean the DVD''s but after reading these reviews now I understand what is the problem. This is the third time I purchase Sony equipment and all af them FAIL!. I will not buy any other Sony Products. They are having quality problem. I will try other DVD player such as Yamaha or Marantz. Strength:
Very affordable; audio and video are very strong when the player is working properly
Weakness:
Firmware issues, lack of help with customer service, cumbersome remote I''ve had the player for just under two years. Around Nov. ''01, I began to get the dreaded "C:13:00" error and had lip sync problems. Fortunately, after seeing the reviews on this site, I knew what the problem was, that Sony wasn''t fessing up to it, and how I had to act with customer service to fix it. I got the typical runaround that most people are getting with customer service when I called. The one line that made my blood boil was..."You can''t believe everything you read on a website sir". That''s when I asked for a supervisor. My player was out of warranty, but I told them I wasn''t hanging up the phone until they agreed to fix it at no cost. Ultimately, they agreed. In the meantime, I registered a complaint with Sony regarding their customer service through Planet Feedback.com. Within a few days of sending the e-mail, I got a call from the head of Customer Relations with Sony. He thanked me for the e-mail and apologized for the lack of knowledge in customer service. He said that since it did indeed seem to be a firmware issue, he promised to put the problems with this player into the Knowledge Base. Don''t know if it''s happened yet, but a promising resolution to what seems like a common problem with owners of this player. Overall, I think it''s a really solid DVD player in spite of the problems, and at the price I''ve seen them for at some stores, it would be hard to pass up. If you''re having problems, here''s my advice: 1) Contact Customer Service and DO NOT take no for an answer. Ask to speak with a supervisor if necessary. 2) Don''t give up until Sony has agreed to upgrade the firmware FOR FREE!! 3) Don''t be afraid to register a complaint; Planet Feedback.com has a pretty good template to get you started My faith in Sony has been temporarily restored. |

Everything
Weakness:
Nothing I don''t know what kind of problems people are having, but this unit is one of the best I''ve seen and have owned. Nothing short of pure bliss. I''m moving this one to my bedroom and bringing in a new Sony progressive scan as an upgrade. I wouldn''t trade or sell this DVD player to anyone. Similar Products Used: Toshiba, Pioneer, and Denon |

Strength:
Excellent picture and sound quality
Weakness:
In the 3 months I've had the player the lip-sync problem has occured twice once with SPR and during the movie the picture paused and the sound caught up with the lips. Second was on a free DVD I received from the purchase of the player. Both I exchanged for new and the problem has not reoccured. Several of you have talk about serial numbers or model numbers and also firmware versions regarding the lip-sync problems. Where can I find this information. I've contacted Sony and they tell me there is no list of models or serial numbers. Other then those two problems, this is an excellent player and a great price to go with it. Strength:
Amazing picture, numerable features for formatting. I shopped around for a DVD player for quite some time and found the Sony one to be superior to others and well worth the price. The picture is extremely clear and there doesn't seem to be much delay in loading different chapters. |

Strength:
Easy setup, affordable model.
Weakness:
audio sych is off sometimes The Sony DVP-530D is my 1st dvd player and I love it. The price is very affordable compared to the 550D which does not offer that many more features to justify its additional price. The built in dolby digital decoding is a definate plus for someone with only a "dolby digital ready" receiver. The only thing I can complain about this dvd player is the lip synch on some discs are sometimes off but that problem is easily corrected simply by stopping the movie. I would have also appreciated if the dvd player could read cdr music cds but it can not. Similar Products Used: none |
