Strength:

nice picture and sound

Weakness:

none so far

Oh boy, oh boy; this player is the bomb. just bought it a few days ago at circuit city for $399.00. This player is kicking ass to the competition. Was I impressed with the sound and the picture quality. I have it hooked up to a sony str-de635 receiver and I am using the coaxial and the s-video connector. The rev is 2.210 and I haven't notice any lip-sync problem yet, so far I only played 2 movies: air force one and the black mask, maybe it's too early to judge. I am going to try others movies and see if I notice the lip-sync problem that everybody is worry about. This dvd experience is much better than the movie theatre, I am not going to the theatre any more.

Strength:

Delivers clear and crisp at decent price

Weakness:

No Jog Shuttle, It's too light. Feels kind of cheap.

I was fairly disappointed with this player. I have pair of Monitor 7's and a CC-170 Center Channel Speaker. This DVD player delivers a clear and crisp image, but I think I could have paid for a lower model and get the same quality for a lesser price. My friend has a Sony DVP-S 7700 and it is worlds apart from the 530D. The extra cash you shell out for a 7700 will be worth the price. The Sony-530D is a medicre player at a mediocre price.

Amazing picture Quality

Weakness:

Lip-Sync Problems

I would have to say this is one of the better purchases I have made over the ast year. At first I went with a similarily priced toshiba but had nothing but problems with it. Sony has won my respect by puting out a top-rate product.

Strength:

Great menu system, good sound

Weakness:

Firmware bug that causes audio and video to lose sync. Need to ship to sony for repair

Great DVD player purchased for less than $300. Annoying that I need to have it repaired by sony due to an audio video sync problem

Strength:

Excellent down conversion!

Weakness:

Lipsink errors.

It's a great unit, no more jagged lines for animorphic movies. Unfortunately the lipsink problem keeps it from getting a better rating.

Strength:

Spectacular DVD Machine! Razor Sharp incredible Picture and fantastic sound! Menu is superb and the virtual surround is great!

Weakness:

Wish it had faster forward

This SONY DVD player is a true joy to own and I have had NO PROBLEMS whatsoever with it. The picture is just so incredible and the sound is just fantastic. It's just a awesome machine that's easy to use and has features normally found on higher end models. You can't beat the price! It has a fantastic virtual surround sound and the built in decoder is superb. I would recommend this to anyone cuz it just simply kicks ass big time. The more recent models of course have been fixed so why be afraid to buy it? RUN to your store to check it out now!

Strength:

excellent VALUE for price and features

Weakness:

occassional lip sync errors

I am very pleased with its performance and many features. It rivals the reference 7700 in performance for a fraction of its price. Honestly I couldnt tell the black level difference between the two players on my SONY KW34HDTV.Lip sync problem occurred twice and was easily corrected by opening and closing the DVD tray once and then resuming play.Highly recommended for those who cant afford the 7700 but demand quality.

Lip Synch Problem

I've had this player for almost 3 months now and I've watched close to two dozen movies, maybe even more. But I've actually only noticed the lip synch problem on two occasions during Mercury Rising and Titanic, other than that this player has been great for perfomance and value.

Strength:

VERY GOOD video quality lots of programming options

Weakness:

If there are any there well hidden

This is my first dvd player but I have been very impressed with the overall performance.I didnt really appreciate it until a buddy of mine bought a toshiba,NO CONTEST,this player smokes it in every way possible.I got a great open box deal on mine so its that much sweeter,I also got the remote from the dvd changer since they couldnt find the one that went with it.I dont know what else you could really ask for,S-Vid.,Componet,Digital/Optical,DD/DTS built in(useless now that all receivers come with that). To sum it all up this is the best player I have seen period, especially for the $$$.I will soon be getting a progressive scan but this one will go straight to the bedroom.Go get one you will not be dissapointed.
