Ummm...ummmm.....ummmmm...still trying to come up with one

Weakness:

Error messages, freezes...is that enough??

Well I can't believe my eyes! Everyone else (the majority at least) seem to have the same opinion of this gosh-awful DVD player! My husband insists on buying Sony for everything and we were told it was top of the line. I get the same C13 and No disk messages everyone else is getting and there is nothing I can do to fix it! This machine sucks sucks sucks!!! Don't buy it!

Strength:

Good sound and picture

Weakness:

Player does not read discs most of the time. I would give it an excellant rating if it wasn't for this important detail.

I purchased my sony DVP-S570D last November from Tweeters. Being a floor model I was furtunate to pick it up at a bargain price of $233.00 , so I thought. The unit did not come with a manual so I did not know what a C13 error message was untill I read the other reviews. This is the first DVD player I Have purchased and I am just as frustrated. I get C13 messages for most of my discs and it seams to be getting worse. I guess there is nothing I can do about it.

Strength:

It is a perfect shade of black to match our tv and entertainment center. Also, guests are impressed with the higher model DVD player that we purshased, until they ask to actually play a DVD then we have to go back to commenting on the appealing shade of black and how it brings out the black in the rest of our equipment. Also, it might come in handy when my frustration about something builds up enough that I feel the need to hurl something across the room - maybe then it will realize that there WAS a disc in it!

Weakness:

Everything except the color. It is unfortuate that their are not negative numbers below in which to rank it, because it is not really worthy of a one.

I don't think I need to go into detail about the DVP S560D, we all know the problems everyone has been having...C13 no disc. This just goes to prove that computers don't know everything because I continually assured it that there was a disc in there, but it was very stubborn insisting there was no disc. I am sooooooo frustrated, because we buy everything Sony (although I am not sure why) down to our credit card and our football! To make matters worse the kind people at Sony offered me the same great deal, around $200 to fix but then they were willing to take 25% off. I couldn't believe it, what logical person would repair this thing for $200 plus shipping, handling, time without the player (although my time with it hasn't been any different). Has anyone had any luck in getting Sony to do SOMETHING? Maybe if a bunch of us signed a petition or something. Is there a lawyer in the house? If anyone has an idea, PLEASE email us, we would love to help - unless we are too busy watching a DVD - no wait, no chance of that because we obviously can't figure out how to insert one properly!

Strength:

Good picture and sound, nice form factor.

Weakness:

False dirty disk errors, freezes, pixelation, short warranty, high flat rate service fees.

I purchased my Sony DVP-S570D in 2000. All of my audio/video equipment is Sony, and I've always been pleased, so I thought the DVP-S570D was a safe investment. After about 10 months it began to give me problems with C 13 errors. I thought it was the disks, so I spent another couple of months fanatically cleaning any disk that went into the unit. The problems progressed to freezes and pixelation. Now I cannot watch a movie over 80 minutes long without a freeze. When a freeze occurs, I am able to continue watching if I remove the disk, leave the tray open, let both cool, and then return to the chapter where it froze. While the intermission is sometimes appreciated, it's hardly how I want to watch movies. I finally got to the point where I'm tired of tolerating and working around it. I'm out of warranty, and Sony's service tells me it will cost $190 dollars just to look at the unit. Oddly enough, the Sony site also advertises a unit that is as capable as the DVP-S570D for about $200.

Strength:

picture quality, sounds great, progressive scan output/component out

Weakness:

doesn't play cd-rs including vcds. Has anyone tested DVD-rs? Sony claims that it should play all

everything is fine, except no zoom and the reason I am writing this is because it won't play any of my cd-r's, when my Marantz DVD player plays them fine. Also won't play any VCDs that I've burned

Strength:

Remote is OK, good picture when it works. Sound OK.

Weakness:

Constant freeze ups and glitches.

The player skips, freezes or C-13's about 3/4 the way through most movies, even brand new disks. It started doing this intermittantly a couple of months ago and now it's all the time. I could not recommend this player. Just bought a cleaning disk, but to no avail. Buy at your own risk.

Strength:

Good picture and sound when it works.

Weakness:

Unreliable. After about a year 1/2 the dirty disk problem has become chronic. I tried putting the same "dirty disks" in another DVD player and they work just fine. I have even seen this problem on two recently purchased DVD's right out of the box.

Sad to say that I am having the C:13 problem as well. I liked the DVP-560D for the first year. Nice picture, good sound. But then this problem became chronic. Based on the comments of other reviewers, I won't even bother trying to repair this unit. IMHO, a repair that costs the price of the unit is a bit excessive.
