Strength:

Excellent quality when it works at all.

Weakness:

Hardly ever works. Reports error 13 (dirty CD) on CDs that other players have no problems with, and now reports "No DVD" on DVDs it played only moments before. The problems are getting worse as time goes on.

Although this DVD player looks great next to my Sony Wega TV, I would not recommend this model to anyone I liked.

Strength:

Sony quality, Styling, Output jacks

Weakness:

Remote is largish

Digitaltronics should really be named "Guys with Middle Eastern Accents". Lord knows they're probably up in an attic somewhere shipping this stuff. But give credit, the product arrived on time and on target at a good price. The DVD player has performed flawlessly. The instruction manual is a whopping 60 pages. I initially had the player up and running in a few minutes. Then used it for a month and THEN actually read the instuction manual. The remote is cool, though big. The wheel that controls fast forward, rewind, slow, etc. takes a little getting used to. A lot of the options I use rarely if at all. Like Angle. Still haven't found a DVD with multi-angles. Also Picture Memory for the screen saver is nice. But I've only used it once really. All in all a superior DVD player. Note: That $370 was shipping included.

Strength:

Vivid picture, great sound for the cost of player.

Weakness:

Little brighteness issue mentioned at summary.

Great to go with Sony Wega TVs. However, if you don't have Wega TV or have most your A/V system in black, you can find comparable products at much less cost. When connected properly, this player can pull some of the best graphic seen on analog TV. Mine is connected by Monster S-series component cable to Sony Wega KV-26 and the output is simply amazing. I haven't had any problem mentioned here yet. The only thing annoyed me a little bit is that when 16:9 enhanced mode is turned on both the TV and player, the extra letter box appeared to be little bit lighter than the letter box automatically made by TV. This is only noticeable when playing newer DVDs that has widescreen mode.
I didn't notice that when I had Toshiba 3109 model so this annoys me a little.

Strength:

Good picture

Weakness:

Breaks too often

This is the worst DVD player I have ever owned. I feel sorry now that I sold my DVP-7000 for this player.

I have returned this player twice for the same problem. Beware...

The DVD will stop in the middle of watching a DVD and it will never play another DVD or CD afterwards. It says there is no disc in the machine when you try to insert one.

When I first bought it, it died after 5 days. I brought it back to the store and got it replaced and 4 months later it died again. I feel sorry to pay $650 for a DVD player that spends 80% of the time in repairs.

I have been looking for a DVD player for some time now, but did not find anything that I liked. Then this DVD player came out and it looks good. I like the silver metal case it is in. It doesn't look cheap like the other DVD players. The picture quality is excellent, better than my friends Panasonic DVD player.

Weakness:

S-LINK DOES NOT WORK ON THIS MODEL. I CONFIRMED THIS WITH SONY. IT WOULD NOT "COMMUNICATE" WITH MY WEGA TV OR MY ES RECEIVER, BUT A FRIENDS SONY DVD CHANGER HAD NO PROBLEMS. I EXCHANGED THIS UNIT 3 TIMES, NONE HAD A WORKING S-LINK FEATURE. IT APPEARANTLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL.

SEE WEAKNESS.

I HAVE NON DVD PLAYER AS OF YET. I WOULD LIKE A SONY THAT HAD A WORKING S-LINK, SINGLE PLAY, NOT THE $1500 9000ES.

Strength:

sound

Weakness:

set up screens, headphone volume doesn't get very loud

I guess I'm lucky...I bought an open box model at circuit city (I still hate that place)for $339 & it's great. It didn't come with instructions so I had to experiment a bit with the setup. When I 1st plugged it in & started playing a disc no sound was coming out of the rear...I had to go in & change some options & then it worked fine. I don't even know excactly what I did but dodgegreen (other reviewer) I bet nothing was wrong with yours..it just had some un needed set up feature that was worded odd...took a few minutes to figure out. I used the optical output & at 1st I was pissed & thought I bought a lemon. Then I messed with it & was very happy. Cd's sound great & it's a very quiet machine. I had a 1st generation Toshiba & a 1st generation proscan that each cost me $600 3 years ago & they both made a hell of a noise when they read the disc. The picture is a bit better better & the sound is WAY better than my other players. I bet the reason mine was an opened box was that some one returned it because no sound came out the rear speakers. I think it's a great player. It plays all my discs fine...the proscan messed up when I played some long dual layered discs.

Strength:

Nice to have DD & DTS decoders if you need them.
Component outputs
Love the color
I like the remote

Weakness:

None so far

The people who have reported freezing during playback must have had bad units. The only freezing I have seen is when using a dual layered DVD. As you know a dual layered DVD will pause playback for a second while the laser switches layers. I have had this player for a while now and have had no problems. I have played over 25 DVDs on it which include some problem titles (Matrix and Gladiator). I love the jog shuttle on the remote; I'm always using it. This is a great player for under $400 online (www.mysimon.com).
