Great DVD Player with excellent quality video and audio.
It is more expensive than other players but is definitely
worth the extra $$$. It just works!! I like the universal
remote too with the TV/Video button, punch in channels 0-9
etc.

(I had a Panasonic A320 before and it was terrible with
crashes and head going bad. The remote was terrible too.
No TV/Video button, no 0-9 numbers for channel surfing.
It kept crashing, had to trash it in six months.)

Strength:

Vivid Colors, Deep Blacks, Suprisingly Good Sound, Very Reliable, Killer Headphone Jack Performance, Plays Almost all CDR brands

Weakness:

Remote Has All the features but poorly laid out, Plays my picture VCDs for a while then freezes-Might be due to my TDK CDR Blanks-, No Zoom feature, No DTS (But Who Cares?)

I bought the DVP-7000 as a demo so I expected it to not last very long. To my surprise it has never broken down once even though I play it every day for CDs and about once a week for movies. The default color settings are perfect, I have never needed to change them (But you can if you want in the menu). The remote however is not very user friendly so I acquired another Sony remote with luminescent buttons and a jog dial. My favorite feature is the headphone jack because the sound is detailed and clear even when cranked all the way up. All in all I am very happy with my bargain demo purchase.

Weakness:

The remote and no DTS (for 7000, no 7700)

I think if luck is to you like me, buy it.
This DVD is for this world same as the sun for the weather!!! Buy it if you see it. You buy the peace.
No trouble about image and sound. The low and hight
frequency are right and image have no strobe. More,

Strength:

Solid consistent and reliable performance, smooth fast forward, plays CDRs

Weakness:

No DTS nor componet video outlets

This first generation player, one model from Sony's flagship 7700 is a great player and if you can find one snap it up. It was so good Sony pulled it after a few months because it did everything the flagship model did and at a considerably cheaper price! I've had absolutlely NO Problems whatsoever with any DVD discs I put in over the 3-4 years of use. It plays CDRs. It'll be a reliable "second" player. It came out before DTS and component video became "standard" for all mid (and now low) priced DVD players. Until I get a HDTV and need a progessive scan player, this unit isn't going anywhere.

Strength:

You have heard it all here before. Blew me away when I bought it. No DTS but that is the price you pay for being an early adopter. I use the player for audio CD listening through the analog outputs and the sound quality is outstanding. Best 1000.00 I ever spent.

Weakness:

The remote is a piece of %&*$. I replaced it with the Jog Shuttle remote from the S7700 for about 100.00. It can be ordered directly from Sony.

I give this product a 5 star value rating. Why 5 stars for value on a $1000 DVD player? The answer is, not once has this player refused to play a disc, been unable to switch layers or hiccuped in any way. Remember this was a first generation product and many other well known brands were touting their second generation products as "bug free". Sony got it right the first time. The only downfall was the remote. What a joke! Japan and Australia models had a really cool remote available and the US got stuck with that button navigator thing.

Strength:

Incredible picture output
Good as a CD player for the price
Nice remote and features

Weakness:

Build quality could bit a bit higher for a "reference" player.

I just wanted to put in my two cents and reiterate what has been said about the video quality of this player. It is simply amazing. The CD output is pretty good -- maybe what you'd get for a $500-$700 CD player. I use mine as a transport into a Lexicon DC-1 and it sounds superb. However, a word of caution: The digital cable used will make a difference in the sound in nicer audio systems. Strange, but true.

All in all I'd say that if you can get this player for $750 or less you have a heck of a deal and one of the best DVD players out there. As for it's being the last word in CD transport technology, I cannot say but I'm doubtful. Let's just say it does it's job very well and I'm not complaining -- my stereo sounds better than it ever has and HT is amazing.

Concerning DTS -- who cares? There are few DTS movies out and even fewer DTS CD's. SACD and DVD-A are right around the corner. DTS is a dead format out of the movie theaters.

Associated Equipment:
Lexicon DC-1 DTS/DD/THX
(2) Linn LK280 amps (biamped system)
AudioTruth Lapis interconnects
Linn K400 bi-wire audio cable (I know, I need to upgrade)
Joseph Audio RM22si speakers

As our Seattle's Mr. Niehaus says "...My Oh My!!" This is incredible, everytime I look at it I smile, and don't regret the $1000 I spent. Nope No buyers remorse here.
The whole player is metal and very sturdy I might add, the transport tray and face move flawlessly. And in the back, every possible input you can think of, it has...with 24K terminals.

Now the good part. Last month I bought a Toshiba DVD2006, and I thought it was just brilliant (as did by many magazine reviews). And after hearing about the DVP-S7000 and the raves it was getting by audiophiles. I decided to take a no holds barred approach to just saying YES, I want it. So I bought it last week.

WOW!!! The pictures quality was incredible, so crisp. The sound was also dynamic, crisp and very discrete. I think my Denon AVR-3200 (dolby digital receiver) fell in love. Once I was convinced of it playing a DVD so well, I decided to pop in an old CD....Winger. My Oh My!!! this sounded oh so good. I had the biggest smile....I heard the highest highs to the lowest lows (from my sub of course).

The initial setups, customization is so user friendly and easy...as is the remote control. 5 minutes (without even reading the manual) I was up and running.
And guess what folks, many articles don't tell you about some neat features. In addition to modifying all the sound and video characteristics, there is little button called DNR...yup video noise reduction (adjustable to 3 levels). It really works. Also it has various custom memory settings as well. But beware, do not cut total power to the unit, all will be erased. Why Sony didn't use a EPROM, I don't know. Oh well. the unit is perfectly fine with the default settings. So make sure you have it on standby power at all times.

Oh one other thing, this unit turns on via any key...meaning you don't have to press power to turn it on....press any key and it will turn on.

Overall, this is on fantastic 25 lb piece of machinery. Don't hesitate, if you can spare $1000, get this bad boy. You will notice the difference and not regret it.

try $425.00 bucks on for size, and that was back in early 98. but i must say, that even at 3 times what i paid, this unit is well worth the money!!!the picture quality is incredible, and the sound is awesome. as a cd player for music, the sound is super clean. it has the same internals as sony's high end es cd players. i can't wait to get my new d-tv and use the componet video outputs. on s-video, the pic is clean with no jitter or scan lines. i heard a rumor from a guy that works for sony, that the 7000 will pass dts. hmmm?
anyway, if you can pick one up, do it!

Sony DVP S7000 is a top end DVD player and also is a big surprise as a CD transport. It was awarded by the Hi Fi Review (a Hong Kong published Hi End magazine) as the 1997 best buy "CD transport"!My first hand experience confirms the statement. S7000 can give "huge" sound stage that is so wide and deep. I do not know any other digital source can produce such a big soundstage. It is also very dynamic, vivid and live.
Pair it with a best digital cable and good D/A and you have a winner digital system hand down.

5 stars as a CD transport. 3 stars as a CD player.
