Sony DVP-S7700 I found a fantastic product. I previously used a Pioneer DVL-909 and I believe there is no comparison in terms of both quality of sound and image. It also functions extremely well as a CD player. EXCELLENT

It is unfortunate that some people, such as Mr. Samoyloff, feel that they need to justify their choices by unfairly attacking the products that they did not choose. Compared with the Pioneer DV-05, the 7700 clearly has better build quiality and video. In my opinion it is as good or better in video and audio characteristics as units costing much more.

Got my DVP-S7700 from Supreme Video on 9/2/99... have put it through its paces with a few DVDs (Austin Powers, The Fifth Element, Wag the Dog, The Truman Show and Ronin). This player truly is phenomenal. If you're looking for gee-whiz features, this probably won't make you happy no built in decoder, no zooming, etc.) -- if you're looking for a player that does 1 thing really well, it will amaze you.
The picture is noticeably sharper than the Toshiba 3109 I auditioned. I'm using S-Video. Don't have DTS or Dolby Digital (yet), so I can't really comment on its sound (although it "seems" better).

The only downside is that the S7700 really shows the inadequacies of my system (Sony ProLogic receiver, Panasonic 27" TV from 1995, Bose (yeah I know) AM-5 with Bose center and rears).

Next to go will be the receiver (for Amp and PreAmp seperates), followed by the TV and then end with speakers. And then maybe a bankruptcy lawyer :)

To mr.L Samoyloff from Saskatchewan(Canada):If that's what you really think about the Sony, you should try another hobby, collecting stamps, maybe, since your ears are not functioning properly.
But I think you just wrote that just because you you want to justify your choice, or because you can't afford buying the Sony.
in that case, take your car, drive to niagara falls and jump.
p.s
Take your pioneer with you.

Strength:

Great picture quality, fast, love that sliding down panel, great sound.

Weakness:

The remote Enter button, can be frustrating to use at times.

Had this DVD player awhile, it has great picture and sound. It loads fast. The only negative is the remote which is sometimes arkward to use.
