Strength:

Excellent rock steady output. Pure colors, excellent contrast, no visible artifacts.

Weakness:

None to speak of considering the cost. Would like to see a less cluttered remote and would like it to only use the outputs I select.

Considering the less than $200 price paid (and that included shipping) this unit is well worth the price. Overall, I just can't say anthing bad about this unit. There are a few things I'd like to see changed...but they're pretty much standards. For example, I'd like it NOT to switch RF outputs (antenna output) when I use either the TAPE or DVD. I should have the option of setting the TAPE to only output to the Composite output and the DVD to only output to the component (or s-video) outputs. When I pay the DVD, it comes out all 3 (RF, Composite and Component [probably s-video also]). I only want it on the component output. Oh well, this is NOT a big deal. The DVD player is flawless. Using the THX optimizer on the "Monster's Inc." DVD, I didn't need to touch a thing...worked perfectly. Razor sharp output on my KV-24FV300 Sony Wega TV. No color shifting, banding, stalls or any other problems. I can't test the progressive output of this unit (my TV can't use it), but presume it works fine. The sound options and outputs are fantastic and I'm extremely happy with it. As to the VRC portion, this is a typical HiFi VHS tape deck. Nothing special one way or the other. Works well, looks fine and sounds fine. The similar SLV-D300P unit from Sony runs at 1/2 the speed of this unit (processor is 27MHz vs the 54MHz processor in this unit), doesn't have VCR+ programming capability and the remote isn't as functional. Viewing JPEG images I burned onto a CD-R was fantastic! I didn't realize how good these pictures could look on a TV until I ran them through this unit. The slide show is a bit slow drawing the images...but I saved them in very high resolution so that's probably not a big deal. All in all...well worth the price, well worth the small cost to upgrade from the SLV-D300P and if I had to do this over again, I'd still buy this unit.
