Warranty is short

I have had a total of six dvd players since day one. This Toshiba is is the best.My last player was a Sony 550d which is a great player that did it all right with never a glitch or a problem.You will not go wrong with it. I had earlier Toshibas that did have "glitches".The Panasonics were good with no problems. Whats the difference with this Dv-4205? Its simply beats them all with picture,sound, and an unbelievable number of features and settings that you can use/tweak, to get the most out of your dvd,cd,vcd,cdr, as well as your monitor. If you don't have a widescreen tv and have a letterbox only dvd to watch, and you don't like those black bars, hit the "zoom" and now you have a full picture(with some picture sacrifice). Point is this unit does it all and then some, and it does it very,very well!I was going to get another Sony, (7700),a superb unit, but after a 5 year employee of Good Guys, who has this 4205, told me about it i decided to go with it instead.Great move! I am more happy with this player than any of the others primarily for what you're getting in features along with the 5 disc capacity.I think Toshiba has stepped to the front with this player. Check it out.You won't go wrong!!

questionable reliability?

I got this player as an "open box" item at the Good Guys. I hadn't done much research, as I usually do, but this baby was loaded with all of the goodies (except progressive scan) so I figured "what the heck." I must say that I've been very happy with the audio and video performance. I have noticed a little bit of strange behavior here and there (one day the motor inside was quite loud, and on another day there was some wierd skipping on a disc that I rented -- it must have been the disc).

I have a Denon-AVR 2700 that I have really loved, but it didn't have DTS decoding. When I got this unit, I went out and bought some AR interconnects for the 5.1 channel analog outs and got my first taste of DTS. I was pretty impressed (compare the DTS and DD tracks on Gladiator -- DTS is more dynamic).

All in all, it seems to be a feature-laden yet untested unit. Performance seems to be there, but only time will tell if my unit will start acting funny. I bought a three-year extended warranty so I'm not too worried, but I am bummed that so many people have had issues. For the money I would suggest checking this player out.

As far as I can see if you lose your TV you can not change your audio settings. I asked Toshiba about this and could not give me an answer.

Just purchased this unit. After looking around I finally found it at The Good Guys in Tustin, CA. The first unit I had for 2 days and had to return it because it had problems loadind the disc. The Good Guys exchanged it without a question. The second one has worked fine so far.

I think the SD-4205 is great. However, the place I bought if from, be warned: www.wholesaleconnection is not an ideal outlet to buy your electronics from! I had a problem where they first sent me a broken Toshiba SD-4205. I returned it, and while they verbally told me they were ordering a new one, they said I never ordered it. However, when I arranged to return the broken one I ordered a replacement and gave them a new credit card number. A couple of days later (past the guaranteed delivery date) they inquired about the new credit card number. Let me ask you this, if they said I never ordered a new one, how did they have my completely new, completely different credit card number?

In summary: WWW.WHOLESALECONNECTION.COM is a great place to get your products from. Deep discounts. However, pray to God you never get a defective product and have to send it back. They are disrespectful, rude on the phone, and are always, always, always looking to take the easy way out.

This player can play CD-R/RW!

Location of the down/up button is very inconvenient.

I love this player . I've had it for couples of days but it plays beautifully. My receiver is DENON AVR3300, front speakers are Paradigm Studio 60, rears are Monitor Audio Studio 10 (this is the best from Monitor audio). No sub and center yet. I replayed The Matrix, the picture is definitely better than the SD3109, the Edge Enhancement makes the picture a bit clearer. I played some more moviews and they all look great.
The audio is excellent, hardly (or not at all) notice any difference between analog 5.1 and the digital output.

I programmed the remote to control my SONY TV, it does not work yet, maybe I am doing something wrong.

The coolest thing is it can play CD-RW, some pioneer players say they do but they may not. This one does 3 for 3, as far as I tried. This is a major plus since I do noise reduction on LPs, so I have to try over and over again and I had not been able to using CDRW at all until now.

Overall, it is such a great product from Toshiba

This dvd player has everything you'd want for the price! WWW.WHOLESALECONNECTION.COM Has the best price for this DVD and this on line company was very helpful. I've read all the reviews on this dvd and some comments made by other buyers.
