I wanted to upgrade my DVD setup from my current Toshiba 3006 (and a Panasonic A100) and know that it is/was one of the better quality units out there. It was showing signs of age and I really wanted to get into DTS. I was thrilled to find that over the past two years, Toshiba has gotten even better. |

I love this DVD player. Great build quality, exceptional range of controls, sharp picture, DTS, exceptional Dolby sound, simple remote ... what more could you want? |

This model had way to much motion artifacts. Top models from Denon, Pioneer and even Sony are better. It is a shame though, other than the artifacts the picture quality was better than Sony and almost as good as the Pioneer. |

I recently purchased the SD9000 after comparing it to both the Sony 7700, and the Pioneer DV-05. I preferred the sharper image of the Toshiba, and the fact that it has 3 adjustable picture settings. The high quality of the components used in processing the sound is what made the difference for me. My DVD's never sounded this good before. I also liked the conservative design of the aluminum face (looks good with my DSP A-1). I would highly recommend this player to anyone interested in a sharp picture with superior sound. |

This is the best looking and sounding DVD player in the "under $1000 catagory" at this time. I purchased it 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. |

I think it is unfortunate when somebody who obviously doesn't own, or hasn't done proper comparisons with competing hardware posts a poor review and drags the review average down on a great component. I spent over a week comparing the Sony DVP-S7700 and the Toshiba SD9000. I had both hooked up to my system at the same time. At first the Sony appears to have a better picture. But after carefully studying, the Sony has a softer picture that masks some of the formats artifacts. This makes you think the picture looks better at first, until you realize it comes at the cost of reduced detail! The Toshiba just plain has a stunning, detailed picture. I could live with either machine. The are both excellent. But for me, the Toshiba was the clear winner. I like the menu better, it passes pluge, and it costs less than the Sony. The only artifacts that I have noticed are because of poor tranfers on certain discs. This can be seen on any DVD player, maybe just to a lesser degree on players that tend to soften, or "dumb down" the picture. I give the Toshiba a 5 rating because I believe it is a "Reference" model at this point in time. And I'm not bashing the Sony just because I decided on the Toshiba, it is a fine unit as well. |

I agree with Steve's comments. I previuosly owned the Panasonic 310. Simply out, this player just has more detail. It's a fine product and is well built. The audio is excellent. I own an EAD Ultradisc 2000 CDP and the 9000 does a good job in a A/B compasion. The Ultradisc is better but not by much. This unit doubles as an excellent CD player. |

Really great DVD player. I haven't done a direct comparison to the likes of the Sony 7700, but I like what I've seen so far. Great picture, super remote, build quality excellent and even a good value in my book ($784 shipped Fed Ex). Sound quality is very nice as well. Just got the player two days ago and has worked perfectly so far (knock knock). Highly recommended! |
