Strength:

Easy to use, clear picture

Weakness:

Could hear spinning of the disk when volume is low. Now CD-R =(

I got this DVD Player as a Christmas gift. My sister also bought one for husband. I have been very happy with it. It is easy to use, and has a great picture. Has some neat features such as the zoom. I have not had any problems playing and DVD, although I haven't tried many. I did rent the Art of War which someone mentioned that they had problems with. I had none. Hope it keeps up the good work.

Strength:

Awesome sound, 4x Zoom, Easy to use on-screen menus, Great picture, sleek styling

Weakness:

Kinda noisy when opening/loading DVD, not as many FF/Rev speeds as the Panasonic DV-30. Could have more Zoom speeds

I just bought the Toshiba 1600, and i love it. I went to
Best Buy all prepared to by the Toshiba 2300 for $299. The
salesguy suggested that I buy the 1600. It is loaded with feautures and sells for only $169. The sound is awesome when
hooked up to my Aiwa (analog) theater stereo system(Monster cables give the best sound). The picture is really crisp, especially when you use the black enhancement feature. My favorite feature is the zoom feature. It allows me to expand
the picture to fill all 27 inches of my TV screen (no annoying letterbox picture!!!!). Prior to buying the Toshiba 1600 I bought the panasonic dv30 ($249). I returned it after 1 week because it didn't have the zoom feature. I like the Toshiba better. I think the Toshiba is a lot easier to use then the Panasonic. As for the remote, I don't have a problem with it.

Strength:

Great Price.
Slim Profile (fits nicely in already overcrowded equipment rack).
Fantastic Picture
Passes PLUGE
Great Price and Value

Weakness:

Smallish (non-backlit) remote
No Optical Output
Not able to play CD-R's

Bought myself a belated Christmas present from Future Shop at 7:00am Boxing day. Got a better price than listed (since they were out of the Pioneer DV333 I was looking to get). Paid $218Cdn.

Setup is easy - use is easy. I have a hard time playing DVD's by only using the PLAY button on the unit itself. Easier use with the remote. This is a minor complaint.

Menu navigation is easy with the remote but I find the basic features buttons (PLAY, FF, REW, STOP) to be too small and too close to the top of the remote.

Have bought 8 movies this week and all play exceptionally well.

Came with a 3-Free DVD offer from Toshiba but you have no selection over the titles: "Romeo Must Die", "US Marshalls", "Lethal Weapon 4".

I would have to recommend this player to anyone looking for good quality on a tighter budget.

Strength:

Picture clarity, zoom feature, Spatializer (3D), features for the money

Weakness:

Turning off player loses place on disc. Remote designed for child's fingers.

I just bought and installed this machine last week to replace my less than 2 year old Panasonic that quit playing RSDL discs (and I not alone in that regards having read the A110's reviews). After playing several discs I can say this is one great player for the money! I do have one major gripe: when you stop a movie mid-way through and power off, the player starts up again at the beginning of the disc. Not a major issue, but can be quite annoying if you don't finish a movie and try to come back to it later without remembering where you left off. Also, where is this so-called screensaver?? It's set to "on" yet all I get is a grey (or blue) screen. Or is that Toshiba's way od saving your screen . This unit performs as well as my original 500.00 A110 and hopefully will last longer than 22 months. Yes, the remote is annoying but so is every other one on the market except the lit-up universals. Overall I'm quite pleased.

Strength:

The zoom, black picture enhancer, bright clear picture, quiet.

Weakness:

not CDR compatible, doesn't include s-video cable.

After I returned my Apex DVD player (which skipped more than a Danish school girl) I got this Toshiba because of it good reviews also my friend has the SD1200. Only difference i found with it was that the control on the 1600 is much better organized. This picture on the machine is excellent. No problems so far except that it won't play American Beauty, but I think it's a problem with the DVD. I like to zoom it in one on wide screen format movies to view it full screen on my 27" and the picture stays superb.
Recomend to anyone who wants a low budget quality DVD player.

First DVD player, very impressed with quality of audio and video.
The only problem encounter so far is that it will not play all formats of DVD discs (CBC'S Canada a Peoples History).
According to the disc promoter the problem is that the discs are DVD 9 or a dual layer disc. Toshiba brand players will not read this type of disc. I've since returned the DVD player. I have been shopping for another DVD player and have tried the discs in various players and they have all worked.(RCA, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung and JVC).
Toshiba says it is a hardware, software problem and will upgrade the software under warranty.I did nat accept this offer since it is a new and improved model of the SD1200 and it should not need work to be done to it already.Value wise this is a great player, has some nice features other players don't have, I wasn't concerned that it would not play CDR.
Overall rating is poor, Toshiba should have included in the upgrades the ability to play DVD 9 discs, others have.

Strength:

Price, ease of setup and use, picture and sound quality

Weakness:

RCA connection cord useless due to short length

If you are looking for an entry-level DVD player, this is it! I have not noticed any problems with the noise of the player, the remote works for my needs, there are no skips and the setup couldn't have been easier. I was watching my first DVD in minutes, and it worked well with a reasonably ancient TV. The only complaint I have is that the RCA cord provided is ridiculously short -- as soon as I opened the box I knew I was into a longer cord (at a hefty price). Shop around for the best price and you will get a great value!

Strength:

Decent picture quality & nice zoom feature.

Weakness:

Disc tray a little noisy. Some DVD's do not play smoothly. No CDR suppport even with good quality CDR's and no optical output. Picture quality could be better.

This product is a great value for its price. Could improve in certain areas such as picture quality.
