Strength:
Versatility, picture
Weakness:
Layering problems, unusual remote, noisy This is an average quality player, with some nice features and a few annoying aspects. Picture quality is fine. Sound is better than average with digital optical. It has componenet video feeds if that is important to you. To date it has been fairly reliable, although I occassionally get a layering problem at the end of a DVD that causes a brief freeze (2- 3 seconds). On the down side it is pretty noisy. When you power it up it goes to the next disc, as opposed to the one you last had in the play chamber. The remote is small and employs a very uncharacteristic display of the menu and enter buttons. Since I use a learning universal remote this is of little consequence to me, but could prove annoying to someone using the provided remote on a regular basis. Similar Products Used: Sony and JVC |

Strength:
Price...component outputs, zoom features, angle feature.
Weakness:
remote tooooo small and no sort of illumination on the remote. Hard to figure out in the dark. My first Dvd player. Wanted a disk changer but the price for a decent one was a little bit out of my range. This machine is just the right price. The first two days were excellent. No problems with the unit, just the remote control is very small with small buttons. The zoom is a nice feature. Overall so far the machine is excellent. |

Strength:
Easy to use. The instruction manual is well layed out and easy to follow. The quality of picture, sound, and performance was impressive.
Weakness:
The menu guide is ok. Many DVD movies are produced in high quality surround sound but the player doesn't default to the surround sound option automatically. It defaults to NORMAL and you must go into the menu to change it to the 3D Surround feature. It really isn't that big of a deal. Have seen other DVD/CD/CD-R but did my research, checked pricing and options. I found that the Toshiba products seem to have a combo of quality and value. The 5 Disc feature is nice considering the option of recording your favorite tunes but on a random format, or the format of your choosing. I felt for the money I made a smart purchase. I waited and researched for 3 months before making this purchase. I am very satisfied. |

Strength:
It is easy to hook up and operate. The on screen guide is great. The remote is easy to understand and use. The kids are amazed so far. The picture is clear. It has zoom features to get more than letterbox ( wide screen format) It is my first DVD player. I skipped over the CD player for my system in anticipation for the DVD. I have played a few movies, used music CD's and it works well. There are alot of on screen menu items. Alot of things that you dont get with Video tapes. So far I am happy with it and very glad it can do CDR and CDR/RW. Similar Products Used: Toshiba dual cassete deck |

Strength:
Fit & Finish seems good.Large variety of media types played back.Low dollar for a 5 disc changer. Both optical and digital outputs along with s-video.
Weakness:
Having to use TV to monitor selections made for CD playback, some features not available on unit, only on remote.Overall physical size of player. Over all I'm split on if this was the best choice. For the dollar it is seems to be a good bang for the buck. My hold ups are the fact it froze up with in 5 minutes of the first time used. Along with this, it seems to get confused easily. Such as not allowing me to turn off the subtitles on one DVD w/o turning off the unit entirely, and starting over. I've had to turn it off several times to get it to get it to reset with these kinds of things. Video image is great, considering my TV is a lower end 27" RCA w/ S-Video, yet the picture looks great on it. CD's sounds great; picture quality using S-Video looks great, very user friendly with some simple reading of the users guide, lots of features. It's biggest draw backs for me are the fact it sticks out about 2"-2.5" farther than any of the other equipment, and doesn't fit depth-wise in the of my rather large entertainment center. Along with this just the several little issues that seem to pop up rather frequently for a brand new unit with brand new DVD's that require it to be powered down completely to get it back on track with what you're trying to get it to do, that it is supposed to do anyway. I am going to research some more to see if there are other units with a little more stable operation in the similar price range. For $50 it's not worth the hassle of dealing with little bugs in the operation, if there is something else more stable. Similar Products Used: Kenwood CD changer (dead..replaced by this unit) |

Zoom Feature, Price, optical and component video outs
Weakness:
Small remote w/ no back lighting. Bought as replacement after lighting fried my 4205. I love Toshiba for the zoom feature which is not easily found on ther players. DVD player has performed flawlessly to date after watching dozens of movies from my collection and various rentals. This player is packed with features for the price. Strength:
Simple to use, great picture.
Weakness:
Not the most asthetically pleasing piece of equipment. Overall, good product. For the money, unbeatable. This is my second toshiba DVD player, upgraded to the 5 disc. Love them both. Now I can lose the CD player and consolidate. This unit has everything you need for good DVD & Cd playback. Some of the buttons are tiny and square, but you'll use the remote (or a universal) anyway. Unfortunately, toshiba doesn't do remotes very well. Small buttons, non-backlit, etc. That's really the only complaint. Absolutely the best 5 disc DVD player that plays nearly all other formats, for this amount of $. Highly reccommend. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD1209 |

Remote and video processing Exchanged the D.O.A unit from the review below. This unit seemed to work fine for the first 30 minutes. Then it began to freeze for 1 or 2 seconds. This was with brand new DVDs. Needless to say it is going back. I will purchase another brand. I am cancelling my order for the Toshiba RPTV. I find these issues with Toshiba Q.C. to be inexcusable. Toshiba you have lost another customer until you can deliver what you promise. Similar Products Used: Various Yamaha and Sony products |

None, never got that far.
Weakness:
All Total P.O.S. that says it all about my paticular unit. Took it out of the box to connect it, it will power up but will not OPEN !!! Remote won't work. Can't turn the unit back on after it has been turned off. So this really is a reflection on Toshiba's Q.C. I know I probably just got a bad unit but, it is still a reflection of Toshiba and their products. I got his unit based their reputation and quality, what a joke!!! I hope the next unit at least works, if not, I'm cancelling my order on their bigscreen T.V. Similar Products Used: Various Yamaha and Sony DVD players |
