Strength:
Rich analog sound. High picture quality. Good tracking of scratched rental DVDs.
Weakness:
NOISY. On-screen menu for CD track programming. Unreliable It sounds good, it looks good, but it's not good. I have had Yamaha components for many years, including a 13 year old CD player that is currently still in use while my new DVD is in for warranty service already. I was dissappointed from the start. My complaints: the power switch has 2 positions, only one lets you use the remote, so you must take care not to actually turn the unit off at the switch. If you want to program tracks for CD, you need to use the on-screen menu, turn on the TV, change the video input blah blah. My biggest complaint; it is really noisy. There is a constant whirring sound, and worse a ticking sound like a clock that can be heard several feet away, I usually shut the cabinet doors when I play quiet music. More recently the unit developed a very loud mechanical vibration and I have sent it away to Yamaha for repair or replacement I hope. I am glad I got it cheap. Similar Products Used: none |
