Strength:

It's great if you like to listen very loud. The satellites are great sound.

Weakness:

It's ok but subwoofer is passive, not powered.

Kenwood HTB-205. Whole system is powerful, the $$$ was worth it. I connected it to a Toshiba SD-V290 dvd/vcr combo player using a radio shack high quality digital coaxial audio cable. the cable was only around 50-60 bucks. DTS sounds the best, DD is greeat to.

Strength:

speaker distance can be adjusted 600 watts!! plenty of power

Weakness:

subwoofer is passive and could be a little better but it's really not that bad

I purchased this unit for my son's bedroom (aprox. 12'x22'). The -205 is very good as the speakers can be adjusted for listening distances with db rating adjustments too. It also has lots of options for different listening modes. The DTS is incredible for a unit at this price range. We first put on the battle scene from "Saving Private Ryan" and I could not believe the high quality audio this unit produces. Overall, you can't go wrong for a unit at this price range.

Strength:

-Good Price -Good Amp (if you have a digital out) -Reliable (have been running 6-ohm speakers on the 8-ohm max amp) -Surround sound

Weakness:

-Weak bass (With standard subwoofer) -Cloudy Midrange (With front speakers) -No 5.1 analog inputs -Not extreamly loud with Dolby Digital /DTS Sources -No Phono Input (Vinal listeners are out of luck)

Good reciever. OK surround-speaker response (good midrange, but weak bass/high end) The subwoofer is easily overpowered if hooked up to the two front speakers. You can only use 5.1 surround sound if the source has a digital output (the VR-505 amp has only left/right analog inputs.) Good deal for the price. A powered subwoofer and better front speakers makes this system a 5/5. After hooking my subwoofer to a 100*2 Stereo amp and running the sub from the pre-out on the kenwood reciever, the bass and system loudness were improved ten times over. A good choice for small rooms, but for large rooms or highest quality sound, look elsewhere/
