Doesnt play most of the discs I rent. Absolute sucky attitude of Panasonic toward their customers. I bought the Panasonic HT-70 about 18 months ago and guess what - I have the exact same "No Play" problem that everyone else seems to have. Emailed Panasonic and they dont seem to give a continental and dont even bother to reply. Service agents want me to pay R900 to replace the optic although it does play some of my own dvds perfectly. I suggest Panasonic wake up and realise how many customers they are going to lose by not admitting and rectifying this obvious design and manufacture flaw. |

DVD's Just wanted to express my complete disatisfaction with this product. I find myself now stuck with a product that I paid a lot of money for, and that does not fulfill its function. I purchase many DVD's only to have this DVD player uncapable of playing them. It is not a matter of fixing this product, it is just a matter that it doesn't have the capability to play all DVD's. I feel completely cheated. The quality of the speakers is not good either. It constantly has a scratchy noise, that comes and goes, which is quite annoying. This is false advertising. Panasonic shouldn't sell a faulty product. No wonder it's no longer in the market. You should at least have had a recall. I want to know what is Panasonic going to do to make up for such abuse of its customers. |

A lot, I thought...
Weakness:
If it is as the service guy said, a lot. If a laser placed in a DVD isn't supposed to last more than three years being used about 10 hours a week I'm worried! I have experienced the same problem as Nummagumma and sherv12. Quite annoying. I've talked to a service guy that said that the laser works for about 3 years on a DVD product... That's got to be bull****. It will cost me about 160$ to replace the laser but he told me that I should try to clean the mirror under the laser first. If it still won't work I will consider to buy a new product, definitely not a Panasonic... |

Weakness:
Won't play MANY DVD, CD-R, CD-RW This product looks nice and sounds OK but has a serious problem with playing all DVDs. I have been able to play every NON playable DVD in other players. If you have one of these units, and are searching for bad reviews or complaints like I am - please contact me. I think that there is power in numbers, and we might be able to get Panasonic to give us something for our headaches. |

APART FROM THE FAULTS THAT I MENTIONED, I HAD LIKED THE SET UP PRETTY MUCH. I USED TO SHOW IT OFF TO MY FRIEND, WHEN THEY COME OVER. IT HAVE PRETTY NICE SOUND FOR THE NOVICE. NOW WHAT DO I DO?
Weakness:
DVD'S WONT PLAY AND THE ONES THAT DO WERE BROKEN AND DISTORTED. THAT'S AFTER THE FAULT AROSE! I BOUGHT THE SC-HT80 A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO AND WAS QUITE PLEASED, UNTIL MY DVD'S WOULD NOT PLAY ANYMORE! I GET A MESSAGE THAT SAY 'NO PLAY' AND MY TV SCREEN READ, 'PLEASE INSERT THE CORRECT TYPE OF DISC'. I DONT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE THESE ARE DVD'S THAT I PLAYED ON THIS SYSTEM PREVIOUSLY. I DONT THINK I DID ANYTHING TO THE PLAYER TO PROMOTE THIS KIND OF ACTION, BUT I AM QUITE DIAPPOINTED AT THIS POINT. I WAS THINKING ABOUT BUYING THE NEW SC-HT95 FOR MY DEN AND PUTTING THE SC-HT80 IN MY BEDROOM, BUT AFTER THIS INCIDENT I AM WONDERING IF I SHOULD MESS WITH PANASONIC AT ALL. I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS SITUATION OR THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME DEALING WITH PANASONIC PRODUCTS. Similar Products Used: NONE |

are u kidding.. if there is a strenght i havent found it yet.
Weakness:
it has the name panasonic on it...which should tell u everything i wanted to invest in a home theater system and came across a good price on the panasonic sc-ht80. I thought it was a steal, but little did i know what i got my self into..Its a piece of crap....money thrown in the trash..i havent had this unit for long maybe about a year now and i am disgusted with it...first of all i don't know why they say its a dvd player if it does not play all dvd movies...out of every 5 i rent it might play 2 or 3..it gives me the message "no play"..this is very frustrating..i have taken it to a service center for this problem and it keeps doing it...i don't think panasonic should put a product out if it doesnt do what its suppose to..let me move on to playing music....it does not read burned cd's which really bites...as far as sound goes, i notice like a scratching sound coming from the small speakers as if they were blown...but u only hear it at certain times....basicly this is the last time that i go panasonic.... Strength:
DVD, 5 Disc, AM/FM, Surround Sound, great picture and sound for price.
Weakness:
No Component Out, large unit, strange remote, disc changer loud, no shuffle mode for audio cds. I checked out several units before buying this one. The Sony was very compact and modern looking, but the buttons were hard to figure out without reading the manual. If I can't do it quickly, my wife won't at all. The Sony is also 1 disc. The Pioneer is a super unit, but much more expensive for casual usage. The Panasonic is very good and ideal for casual users. The remote does put common DVD buttons in a bad place and without lite, you can't read them which makes watching a DVD in dark very difficult. Similar Products Used: Sony & Pioneer |

Good price, movie audio is very good, easy setup
Weakness:
music sounds is terrible, 5 disc changer is loud, slow, useless...remote, weak speakers/subwoofer I am a home theater novice first of all. I had some extra money for the summer, and I wanted to invest in a home theater system. The all-in-one aspect of this system (and the very similar Sony DAVS300) is very attractive to a novice like me...I didn't want to deal with setting up the system separately and all that stuff. However, this system was really lacking in power and overall quality. The system performed well with some good dvds (crouching tiger, the game. The sound was very crisp and loud. However, the picture was not all that teriffic, and the sound was very inconsistent throughout the varoius movies i used. As for music playback, this system did not provide me with the quality that I wanted. While I was not expecting for flawless sound at this price, I expected more than the dull sounds that I got. The sound was not crisp, and the subwoofer performed very poorly with heavy bass tracks. The 5 disc changer is worthless...no changing discs while you are playing one, it is slow and loud. The remote was very bad (as is most it seems), and had to be very direct at the receiver to get it to work. Overall, I was very disappointed. I returned this system after 2 weeks of use, and am now determined to not be cheap with home theatre. I have bought the Cambridge Movie Works 308 speakers and a harmon kardon 110 receiver on ebay for the price I spent on this system. I will complete the system with a good cd/dvd player, which will be money much better spent. Hope this is helpful. Similar Products Used: none |

Compact sized, sleek modern look, all in one design.
Weakness:
Although a Panasonic product, manufactured in Malaysia & Singapore, still lack that Made in Japan feel and fit & finish. No Video input or output for VCR and AUX is a headache if you plan on hooking up your VCR or LD player. Tray opens with a cheap sounding mechanical sound. No DTS, THX. Before purchasing this product, I have also looked at the Sony system and Pioneer system. Both of which offered the same all in one package. Sony's system was compact, sleek as well, only reason I did not purchase it was because it did that sound all that great, the only way I can put it, is the Sony sounded like an ant trying to shout through a microphone sound, the sound is hummed, dim, and lack of that big theater feel. The Pioneer system, offers a good look and sound that can compete with the Panasonic, but with its much higher price, I dropped it off my consideration list as soon as I saw the price tag. The main reason I purchased this Panasonic was its VALUE & Sound quality. Purchased through Yahoo! Shopping at $529, at $270 off the MSRP price, it was a steal. Sound is wide, bright, and clear. Only complain I have for sound is I wished it offered a much deeper sounding sub. That's my own personal opinion, since I tend to like to FEEL the bass rather than hear it. Overall, out of 10, I give this Panasonic a 9.5. My major complaint: No Video inputs for VCR & AUX. What was Panasonic thinking when they designed this system?? How can we watch a VHS tape movie without video???? How do we hook up our LD players with only sound but no video???? Panasonic must realize, no everyone out there can afford expensive TVs that has 3 inputs. |

Strength:
Easy of use, sound and picture quality for the price This Panasonic combo is a very purposeful system, that is a complete A/V system, and offers everything one can ask for from a compact A/V system. With a 5 disc capacity, and an active subwoofer, it as the advantage over the Sony, even if the Sony as DTS capabitity and this Panasonic hasn't. But who cares ? For the price it is great value. The DVD player as the quality of a Panasonic product and the 5 channel amplifier as all the power that the 5 speakers ask for a great sound a picture performance.
