Strength:
Excellent sound! almost wireless rear speakers are nice very sleek and modern look
Weakness:
cheap remote not completely "wireless" somewhat pricey sloppy menu setup options I decided to write this review after deciding on this model but not having any other reviews to base my decision on. This was my first home theatre purchase (bought to compliment our 50" DLP tv) but I had a fairly good idea of what i was getting into. This system claims to have wireless rear speakers, and while that's true, be aware it not completely wireless. The rear speakers are connected (wires) to an amplifier that also needs an electrical outlet to power the speakers. There's also an IR transmitter and receiver that is used to send the audio signal. You will need to find a place for this as well, and it needs to be a place where there is little traffic. Any time you stand or place something between the transmitter and receiver you will lose the signal in the rear speakers. I knew this going in but only after I had researched it a bit and knew how to work my living room around this requirement. The remote sucks but you can likely program another remote to work the system. Those would be the only negatives, everything else is pretty awesome. The sound is very clear, even on the "wireless" rear speakers. You can crank the system up and really shake some walls!...when your spouse will let you that is!!! Shop around!! I was able to buy my system online for $600 from a reputable Sony dealer. Takes some time to find the good deals but well worth the savings. Overall I wasn't as blown away by the system like I had thought/hoped that I would be, considering how much I was going to pay. Again though, it was my first theater system purchase so my expectations were probably a little skewed. It is a pretty cool system though and I would recommend it for anyone. |
