Strength:
*Nice DVD picture, dispite my S-Video output problem. *Excellent DVD features *Good remote *Easy setup *Good beginner system *Has two external A/V inputs for other devices *Good tuner reception, with naming ability *Remote can operate other TVs
Weakness:
*NO DIGITAL INPUT/OUPUT *Lack of setting adjustment *Expensive considering individual parts won't work well with other setups *Boomy subwoofer *Passive subwoofer *Cheap speaker cable supplied (change it before you install the system as it makes a huge difference) *No component out *Remote can't operate Sony VCR This product in my opinion is really four products in one: DVD Player, A/V Receiver, 5xSatalite Speakers & Subwoofer. I will review each part separately. DVD Player - OK It is a reasonable DVD player capable of a pretty good picture. Has good loading and alyer transition times. Good points include detailed DVD setup menu which enables lots of info about the disc loaded to be gained (e.g. bit rate history, layer change point, audio bitrate). Bad points are no component out or digital out. Additionally in my setup, S-Video out produced very very faint wavy angled lines on the screen, that disappeared with composite, and other DVD players. A/V Receiver - poor No digital in, and very limited settings. Really is designed for use only within this system, and not to be used for other purposes. Sound is average, and power output is okay with its own 3ohm speakers, but with everything else it is way too weak. Also directs way too much to the sub, and can't alter that amount. With music, even with sub set to -6dB, far too boomy! Speakers - poor Single "full" range cone, that can't go low, and doesn't do highs with any detail of presence. I changed center to two-way Aaron speaker, and improvement was out of this world! Still they move a far amount of air out of the bass port. Subwoofer - crap Way too boomy, and lacks amp (passive). Nice small size, but passive nature means its usefulness outside this system is nil. Overall it is a good first system, but it is very difficult to upgrade individual parts of it. I bit pricey these days, but a nice intro to DVD system. Similar Products Used: Pioneer DV-S733A Denon AVR-1803 B&W DM600 S3 B&W LM1 Aaron CC-15 |

If you want a small, space saving unit, this is it. Inexpensive and sounds great. Easy to set up and use. |
