Strength:

Worked fine for one year.

Weakness:

Died after one year.

My DVD-CV51 died after one year with the dreaded H02 error code. I checked the Panasonic class-action website, but that settlement didn't cover the CV51 model. I won't buy Panasonic again.

Strength:

Excellent sound and picture quality. Component output, optical digital output

Weakness:

Non-progressive scan. Will get out-dated in a year or two. A little pricey.

Purchased the unit brand new at the Crutchfield Store. The player has run flawlessly for over a year. The video quality is excellent. I just purchased a JVC l'art 56" HDTV and the DVDs are shown to be outstanding for a non-progressive scan DVD player. I am very happy with this unit.

Weakness:

90-day labor warranty! Grr!!

update: it broke. got an H02 error, everything works, except it won't read anything and this has the dreaded 90-labor warranty. I bought a DVD-CV37/CV62 in place of it which I don't like as well. Hopefully it will last longer.

Strength:

Ease of use, speedy disc changes, good remote.

Weakness:

No text for MP3's, a little slow on the reading.

Well I think this a top notch unit. I have had no problems whatsoever with it. I can confirm complaints that it is noisy while the tray is moving. Big deal! The "noise" which is not THAT loud, lasts about 2 seconds per change. The remote is well laid out and the sound and picture are great. Plays without skipping on all but the most scratched up discs but will not play a cracked disc at all, no matter how thin. Has played all my cd's and cd-r's but havent had a chance to get a cd-rw in it. The absence of text for MP3's is a shortfall, as is the reading time, but like another reviewer said, you want all the bells and whistles, shell out the cash to get them! Overall, if you can find it cheap, you can NOT beat this machine for the price.

Strength:

mp3 decoder. great for playing cds as well as dvds.

Weakness:

remote is a weak point. the motor can be a bit loud at the beginning of dvds.

I''ve been very happy with this dvd player. Haven''t had any problems with it at all; it plays cds, dvds, and mp3s on cd-r, all without any problems at all. also, panasonic uses separate lasers for reading dvds and cds. This works much better than using the dvd laser with a filter, which is what other vendors do. Sound quality and image quality are both excellent. This is a great machine if you need it to be both a dvd and cd player.

Strength:

-mp3 decoder for CD-R -can apparently play only the CDs loaded, but I haven''''t bothered to figure that one out yet -schematic lights indicate whether CD (green) or DVD (orange) is loaded, and in what position

Weakness:

-no dimmer for display -layer changes not fast -remote (workable, but sometimes frustrating) -I have to always select DD/DTS 5.1 if there''''s another choice

The CV-51 is my first DVD player, which doubles for me as a CD changer. Works pretty well for me. Considering I have a 19-in TV, I really am more in love with the sound, which blows the VCR away. setup: Technics SA-DA8 receiver Infinity RS-5 mains Infinity HPS center Aiwa mini system speakers as surrounds no sub :( 19" Sharp TV

Strength:

Seems to have decent features, particularly the MP3 decoding capability.

Very disappointed in this product! The player locked 12m into the first movie and now it won't read any DVD placed into the machine--I receive error messages!

In fact, in terms of buying panasonic products (VHS, DVD) I am 0 for 5 in getting a product that works (out of the box!). I hope that my experience is unusual for Panasonic's sake.
