Strength:

Good Dish500. Good at fixing little problems.

Weakness:

Customer and tech services will not fix big problems. Very expensive to fix any hardware problems you will encounter after 1 year.

I've been a DishNetwork customer for just over a year now.
Foe one year not a problem, now HELL broke down!
My receiver 2700 failed, swith64 failed. AND DishNetwork customer service and tech supports are unable to fix the problem. WHY? Because they expect you to change the cables, switch receiver and change the switch until YOU have found out which part is failing. They expect the customer to climb to the roof and try by-pass surgery.
Ho yes, if you are unable to get there, (65 year old), you can always pay the $119 for the tech bozo to come over and find out that I need to get another switch....you get the picture.
Bottom line is that DishNetwork hardware and customer service cannot be trusted. Be advice that once you sign up with theme you're on your own.

Strength:

Easy to use. Small and lightweight.

Weakness:

No S-Video. No Dolby Digital. Sometimes smart card has to be pulled out and reinserted.

I have owned a dish network 4722/2700 system for over a year. I haven't had any problems, except that occasionally the smart card has to be pulled out and reinserted. What happens is my system will have a problem (Typically no sound). I pull out the smart card, wait a couple of seconds, reinsert it and wait about a minute and everything is OK. The first few times I had problems I called the dish network and they guided me through this. After that, I would do it myself without calling them. From what I understand, this occurs after a software update and is very common.

The receiver is very bare-bones. No s-video, no dolby digital. It does work with Dolby surround. It has rca outputs, so the picture quality isn't as bad as having only a coaxial output. The unit is very light. I would guess it weighs about 10 pounds.

I didn't have to pay anything for this, since I received a rebate to cover the cost of the hardware. I just had to agree to sign up for at least $56/month of programming for the first year.
