Picture Quality I'm on my second box from RCA, and quite frankly the picture quality on both sucks. There is serious pixelation that happens especially on large areas of a single color, additionally the edges are very fuzzy. It seems like the video decoder is broken, considering I'm getting a 92 signal level, and my brand new sony tv works great with other sources (I tried svideo and rca) Has anyone else had this problem? It's not worth a thing with this crappy picture. Plus the 'rf' remote is only good for about 30 ft. |

Guide, size of unit
Weakness:
Remote won't control audio receiver. Takes 5 to 10 seconds for audio to follow picture once the receiver is turned on. I purchased this unit as it has dolby digital out and I mistakenly thought that my previous '98 model RCA DD unit was broken (turns out the optical digital cable was bad). Strength:
Very fast, nice guide, optical output, rf remote, interactive capable
Weakness:
the picture in the guide could be bigger but there are more listings than most satellite receivers This satellite receiver is really one of the best you can buy today for Directv. I have used it for almost a year now and its simple to find the programs your looking for. It's quick compared to other receivers and really quick compared to Dish Network.(Wether thats Dish Network or their equipment is up to you to decide) The optical output is great for dolby digital. This receiver also has the ability to use Directv Interactive, which lets you see up-to-the-minute sports scores and stock quotes etc. Overall it's really great. Similar Products Used: RCA DS4240RE |

Dolby Digital, DirecTV Plus, fast programming guide I have a 36" PROSCAN TV and the red/pink color shift referred to in some of the reviews do not exist in this receiver. The picture is perfect, just like the other RCA satellite receiver (different model) in our bedroom. Similar Products Used: SONY SAT-A55 |

Strength:
Fast tuning, RCA is happy to exchange defective new units with remanufactured units
Weakness:
Receiver locks up all the time. All the RCA receivers from this generation have a problem with the red tint control. This unit is terrible. There is some problem, (know to Thompson), that causes the red tint shift from normal, to very pink, and then back to normal. It is very pink for 1-2 seconds. This problem is also well documented on WEB Forums. The problem happens on Direct TV channels as well as the Direct TV locals. It is very annoying and Thompson has no fix. They replaced the first box for this problem. The second bax had the some red tint problem and it would lock up at least once or twice a day forcing me to unplug it for 10 minutes and then start over. The replaced the second box, and the third one has the red tint problem too. The tech at Thompson said there was Software update coming at the end of September that was supposed to fix the red tint problem. Mine still has the problem. I am giving a very low rating because Thompson still has not resolved this issue after 9 months. 1 star for value because I can't exchange it for a Sony, and 1 star for overall becuase of the red tint problem that hasn't been fixed...joe |

Too many to mention I am having the same red tent problem with my RCA Dolby Digital receiver. Thompson has replaced it and I still have the same problem. I also have an audio problem as well. When a Dolby Digital signal is playing it cuts out momentary. This happened with both receivers. I even tried replacing the optical audio cable and it did not help. But the analog audio plays fine. ????? I've owned an older model RCA DSS receiver that I purchased in 1994 and I've never had a lick of trouble with this receiver. The only reason I upgraded (or thought I was upgrading) was to get the DD effect and to have a receiver in the bedroom. Similar Products Used: older model DSS Reciever |
