18 Micron Heads, SVHS, Flying Erase Head

Weakness:

Poorly designed remote, Menus are not user friendly, Display is too bright.

WelL I bought this VCR thinking I could make the upgrade to SVHS with this moderatly priced JVC unit. What I got was several headaches that I found that I was not able to live with and so I returned the unit. First of all the remote requires that you hit the PLAY & RECORD buttons at the same time to start recording (HELLO!?!?! This is not a $20 boombox from the 80's) And if you pause the recording you have to hit stop and then record again to start recording. Also if you are watching a tape and eject it, you have to whip out the remote to scroll the display back to showing the time or the input you are using. Over all the SVHS recording was top notch and it was nice to actualy use the S-Video connections on my DSS for once.

This unit I'm sure is great if your used to the convoluted JVC way of doing things, but for people who are used to Sony or RCA vcrs its just more trouble than its worth.

My Suggestions to JVC of what to change on future units:

1) One button recording
2) A more "user friendly" programing and setup
3) Displays that have set default (Eject a tape, display time)
4) EJECT button on the remote (HELLO?!?!?)

In the end, I took it back and got a Sony.....
