Strength:

Quality picture, fast switching between play, rew, ffw.

Weakness:

No S-Video. Display panel sucks (shows tape playback by the minuet, not the second) And I belive the auto head cleaner is disfunctional. (I've had to self-clean it twice now.)

This machine produces an excellent picture and flawless hi-fi sound. It features commercial skip, and VCR+Gold, which both complement the machine. The Front A/V inputs are solid, and produce just as accurate picture/sound as the ones in the back. The remote is simple and responsive. Tape control is superior.
I however wish this VCR had an S-Video output, and a to-the-second playback display. Other than that, this product is an awesome deal if you can get it at as low a price as I did. ($99 US new) Reccommended!

Strength:

Excellent stereo sound comparable to compact disc
Commercial advance skips the commercials in playback.

Weakness:

Poor display shows very little. Must view tv screen to
see status of tape running.

The RCA VR639HF is a recent model sold for about $140.
It does have commercial advance and movie advance, VCR+,
auto clock time set (which doesn't work on my machine)and several other nice features. The picture quality is satisfactory but would probably be better if I were using
separate cables for left, right, and video. I use it mostly
on the slp settings. Playback of rented movies is fine. I experimented with recording stereo music via the extra inputs and sound was excellent, fully comparable with that
of compact discs. (You could get an entire opera on one
videotape!) The VCR+ works well. My main gripe is that the
display panel is practically worthless. Unlike most other
models I have used, it doesn't show ff or rewind or give you
numbers other than the time. For all these you must rely on the tv screen.
Commercial advance is excellent and I would never buy another VCR that lacked that feature. It allows you to tape
a two hour movie (with commercials) and then view it in
90 minutes by skipping past all the commercials in a few
seconds....a very worthwhile feature! In view of the poor
display I rate it 4 stars.

Strength:

Excellent sound system

Weakness:

Noisy at times

I won this RCA Home Theater 46" in a sweepstakes. The quality is really quite good. I have seen the same model at most retailers for $999.99. If you are not ready for the HDTV, try it!

Strength:

I purchased the RCA vcr model VR644HF
several years for $366 from VIDEO ONLY
store. it worked very well for about
six months. the best thing I can say
about this purchase was the fantastic
sales job done on me by the salesman.

Weakness:

I put up with intermittant operation
for a few months...finally took it to
an "authorized repair facility" only to find out the warranty had expired.
they told me it was a common problem
with that model (bad power supply). I
offered to pay to fix it...they suggested I throw it away and buy a new one. after talking with 2 more repair shops & RCA customer service? I
sold it to the last repair shop for $25...he had a stack of RCA vcrs and
said he was going to try to get some
working again

I will not buy another RCA product after my costly, bad experience with
this vcr. I can understand hardware
malfunctions but there is no excuse
for poor customer relations.
