Strength:

Good for someone starting out with home theater, everything you need in one box

Weakness:

No DD or DTS decoders on receiver, sub isn't very powerful

This is a nice little system for those with no home theater experience. However, it's not a really great system. The receiver it comes with is the STR-SE391. It is similar to the Sony STR-DE335. It's nice but there are no DD or DTS decoders built in and no optical or coax inputs either. This is basically a pro-logic receiver. Center speaker is 120W and the 4 satellite speakers are 100W each. These are quality speakers. However, I don't really like the 50W sub that comes with this package. At high volumes the bass causes the sub to rattle. Purchased through eBay for $315. You will usually see this item for $400 in the stores. If you need to go with everything in one box I would recommend going with the HTD-DW910. It includes a Sony STR-DE635 receiver which has a DD decoder and one optical and one coax input. I've seen these go for about $550. There is also a HT-1000D which comes with the STR-SE491 receiver and a DVP-S530D DVD player with DD decoder. This will run you another $200-$300 more. I prefer to build my own system and get all the best hardware. I might go with the Sony SAV-E505 6-piece speaker set (5 speakers at 120W each, 100W sub).
