Strength:

ahhhhhhh I guess they are loud

Weakness:

has the word "aiwa" written on it

Aiwa is terrible. Whether for minisystems, car radios, receivers, cd players, anything aiwa, they are not good. Especially the car radios and their cd players. I work at Best Buy so I know what items get returned the most because they don't work. We actually had to send our whole supply of CDC-X176M 's back because they were all defective. All the floor models' volume knobs don't work and the 3 disc CD will only work for about a year. If you do buy an aiwa product, you MUST buy the Performance Service Plan on it. DO NOT BUY ANY TYPE OF AIWA PRODUCTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Booming powerful Bass, LOUD, Great Value

Weakness:

The speakers distort the output a bit at higher volumes

I got the AIWA NSX-999 4 years back and It was the best investment I ever made. It stayed with me through college and grad school with out ANY hitch of any kind. The sound is very powerful. ( my model had 125 watts per channel). The bass is perfect for rattling the house next door. My only complaint is that AIWA should consider shipping higher rated speakers which can take the kind of output this baby can supply. Around 50 percent of the volume control is how much the speakers can take without sounding like they are going to blow up, especially with bass boost enabled. The DSP modes work fine and the system is cute. No mechanical problems of any kind. The Systems skips on a few CD's but I suspect that I havent cleaned the laser for 2 years :( !!
Its a great buy for anyone wanting home theatre performance at an affordable price. This system ROCKS.

Strength:

Lots of features, good powerful sound

Weakness:

Cd player (need I say more), bit of noise at higher volumes, dead LCD display

I won't cover what everyone else has said, suffice today I've had the usual CD problems, a dim LCD and a ticking noise on the tape... But, after reading all of these reviews I got my screwdriver out and took off the back of the hifi, dismantled the CD player and cleaned the lens with
a bit of turps, and would you believe it I'm now listening to my CD player in use for the first time in about a year and a half... All you have to do is unscrew the back and sides, take off the perspex laser aperture and clean the LEDs there. Then you have to undo the whole cd mechanism from the front of the machine (there's a metal bracket that connects to the front that needs to be taken off. The Cd player will then waggle out - be careful of the two ribbon cables connecting to the player - you can take these out but remember to put them in the right way again. When you can reach the lens (which is hidden underneath the thing that holds the CD when it's spinning) get a rag and carefully wipe it over, screw back together, and with any luck it schould work. I'm not sure how long this will last, and I didn't mess with the tracking screw (where do you find this?), but it appears to work at the mo. Any clues on how to fix the LCD would be appreciated, it can't be that difficult surely?.
If it didn't suffer from the problems then the system would be great, but the defects are unforgivable. I'm going to get separates as soon as it breaks down again.

Strength:

Very nice and clear sound, deep bass, many features.

Weakness:

Problems with many buttons eg I press the power off button and sometimes it works like AUX button. Also problems with tuner and Tape buttons.

After I bought the AIWA NSX-999 I heard from many people that this product was not successful and they told me I was lucky because I used it for a couple of years without any problems. After the 3rd year the problems appeared. Problems are very annoying since I press a button and works like I pressed another button. The positive of this product is only the Good quality of sound and the lot of features. A great product for those who want to buy a good system for a couple of years.

Strength:

Loud! Decent Sound considering it is a shelf system.

Weakness:

Mechanical failure after mechanical failure

I think someone should start a support group. I design high end internet components for a living and have taken this system apart on numerous occasions to fix mechanical problems. Never fails, a short time later it again has to be repaired, either the cd's don't line up in the changer or the cassete players are trashing an old cassete. Underpowered lasers??? Sounds like sanke oil to me...more like poorly designed junk that happens to put out some good sound when you can get it to function properly.
Who should buy it: People with money to burn.
Who would I like to see buy it: Every design engineer at AIWA.

Strength:

Had enough power to expand the system a little, aux. inputs saved it from the dumpster

Weakness:

Sound quality is good for this type of system, but in general, is sh!t. Had to disconnect the surround speakers because they just made the system sound worse. The Cd player stopped working 2 years into use.

I bought this before knowing much about audio systems. I went to a place called Incredible Universe, planning on spending no more than $500.00 Well, this was the best sounding stand-alone system for the price ($499.99), so I picked it up. As I learned more about sound, I realized that the bass of the system was not good enough for me. I went out and bought a cheap passive Optimus 12" Subwoofer, and hooked it up in-line with my 2 main speakers. The system had plenty of power to supply for that. Then, as I started further fine-tuning, and got a nice computer that ran MP3's and had a nice sound card, I ended up doing all equalization through my computer, and sending that through the aux. input (which was working, while the cd player was not). I finally got fed up with the tinny, unsmooth highs, non-existent mids, and VERY muddy bass, and splurged. I've now got Separate Amp & Pre Amp from Adcom, and Polk speakers, and a GREAT Pioneer Elite Cd player. This is a great smooth system, not even comparing in the least to the Aiwa. I'm even thinking of upgrading to higher end stuff, but not because mine sounds terrible......

I liked the stereo when I first got it. All the advertising and reviews seemed great. The cd player broke. Aiwa should be sued for fraud, no doubt about it. I went to their site to email them, even their site took forever to load. Aiwa is no doubt the worst company ever, with poor customer satisfaction technique. I'd love to punch whoever makes these things. A waste of money, a waste of time. What I find strange is that wherever I go, the only brand that seems to be on the shelf...is AIWA. Why?? why? why? If you're thinking about Aiwa, please pass it up.

I have had a NSX-999 in my bedroom for a few years now, sounds good, still works fine, i did have a problem with the laser in the CD being under powered and would'nt play some CD's, but i found it in the garentee so it was changed at no cost to me.
A good sounding, powerful unit if you are not expecting it to match the quality of a good seperates system, but watch out for the CD.
