Bought this system used at Goodwill for a mere 12 (twelve) dollars yesterday, and it's awesome... the CD player didn't work, but I was able to fix it by readjusting the laser lens. The tape decks are awesome as well, just wish it had auto reverse and Dolby NR, but oh well. THE END

Weakness:

CD player

I have had the CD player repaired 3 times. I just finished the paperwork to be reinbursed for $125 (max) for repairs. A consumer lawsuit was filed against Aiwa for the defective CD player, was recently notified by mail.

Strength:

In the beginning it works great and give you good listening quality

Weakness:

CD player sucks. Needs manual EQ.

This system is engineered to break. It has a problem with the CD player that Aiwa should have recalled and fixed.

Strength:

small, affordable, decent sound, features

Weakness:

no manual EQ, cheap speakers, cheap CD playa.

I bought this system years ago. The CD player had problems, although, the sound wasn''''t bad. 20watts/channel was pretty cheap, but when I opened the speakers up, it had a little 4" woofer and a little tiny ceramic tweeter. the reason it sounds like this is that the woofers are actually full ranges and the tweeters are just...there. you can''''t even really hear them. I hooked better speakers to the stereo, but it wasn''''t worth it. It stil sounded crappy. The CD player I had to fix several timez, but I think the coolest thing aBOUT THE system is that you can see thru the top and it has milti colors inside. (that glass cracked and eventually broke off.)

This system is quite a bad system. The lower frequencies are very underepresented and the sound gets kind of "bright" at a high volumes. The speakers are cheap and can't really handle the weak bass the system puts out. I've had it for awhile now, about two years, and already the CD player is fritzing out. Now I just use it for my computer to get louder sound. Overall this system is pretty weak but then again it was cheap.

Strength:

I don't think the sound is too bad.

Weakness:

No auto reverse. What is this continuous play crap? Who would want that over auto reverse? The salespeople
did not know what it was and told me it was auto reverse with a different name. Not quite! It sucks!

I've had this system for over four years and I have used it a lot. I've been having a lot of problems with the cd player
in the last six months. It just spins and spins on a cd and won't play it, sometimes it won't even recognize there is a cd loaded in it. I always had this problem when playing cd-r's, but it would eventually play them. It won't play those at all now. I am happy to go on here and see that I am not the only person who has trouble with the cd player.
I probably won't ever buy another aiwa. I think when you
pay $200 for a system, it should last a little bit longer
than four years. I didn't think the sound was too bad.
As noted above, I don't know why anyone would find continous play a useful feature, especially instead of auto reverse. This is a stupid feature. I also don't like the antennas. They are too cumbersome to use; I'd rather have a regular antenna than the long stringy ones that need to be attached to something. I don't reccomend this product to anyone.

I had an older Aiwa minisystem that I bought from a guy moving to New Zealand, at a time when my budget was pretty tight. It wasn't fantastic, but it fit nicely on my bookshelf and filled the room--I never had any complaints. Over time, the 3-CD changer broke down, and I decided that I had enough dough to get a real system. A friend of mine talked me into getting another cheap system to tide me over until I moved into a new place, which should be happening in a year. So I picked up an Aiwa NSX-222 from Costco--figuring that otherwise I would have to make room for the new peice of furniture that a real stereo is. So here's the review. It blows. More or less. It confirms what I suspected, that Aiwa has lowered the quality of their low-end products, which doesn't much excite me about their high-end products. As it was, I kept the speakers from the old system, and I'll sell the speakers from this system cheap to someone else. My advice is to go to Best Buy and give a listen to the wider selection they have there. For the same amount of money, I think you can get a better sounding system.

Strength:

I like the looks of the NSX-A22 and the affordability.

Weakness:

Theres not a graphic equalizer to manually adjust the sound. The buyer has to rely on the pre-set buttons.

I bought two NSX-A22's for my twin daughters birthday less than two years ago. It's too bad that one of the units is having problems with the 3 disc changer.I expect the other one will soon go bad also. Go figure,... that the Manufacturers Warranty expires close to or just before the units go haywire. I was warned by a friend that they had nothing but trouble with there unit, but I thought they were just being finicky. Now I feel like I should have listened to them more closely. It will cost more to get it fixed than its worth. I dont think I can trust Aiwa products like I did in the past especially if they cant back up there products with a better warranty.

Strength:

It's small and cheap.

Weakness:

The 3-CD changer/player broke after less than a year.

This is an unreliable POS. Dont buy it. From what I gather, the CD player is engineered to break. Thanks Aiwa.
