Love it. Perfect system for my budget (being a college student I was limited to about $200. Good bass, Good treble. I sometimes hear some sibilance, however, I have a feeling it is on the recording and not caused by the speakers. With 100 watts total RMS its perfect for a dorm sized room and has enough power to really bounce things if you feel like cranking it. |

Strength:
Great sound, just as good now 3 years later as it was when I got it.
Weakness:
The base is nice, but could be better I havn't had any problems with the system at all. I installed the Aiwa surround speakers and I havn't had any trouble (been over 6 months now). Same with the laser, at least for me it reads some cd's that were so scratched I thought would never play at all. It could use a sub, the base is slightly on the week side but certainly exceptable. Price wise, well I got it when it first came out so I paid the full $300, for me its been worth the money. Similar Products Used: Aiwa NSX 737 |

Strength:
Full feature remote control, sync dub from CD to tape, excellent sound, ease of use of all controls, video/aux input is handy
Weakness:
For $180- how can there be This is an initial report so I cannot comment on the long-term quality of this unit. I just purchased this as a gift for my sister. Her only criteria were: digital tuner, 3 CD changer, 2 tape decks, remote control. After thoroughly research all the specs on more than a dozen candidate systems, I demo'd this Aiwa and the Sony systems mention above. The Sony systems lacked the front panel and remote control functionality of the Aiwa. I used U2's "I still have not found what I'm looking for" disc to compare sound quality. No contest. The dual 35W subwoofers and 15W midrange/tweeter combination produced clear, concise highs that lacked any degrading, sharp distortion. The bass was firm and punchy, and lacked any noticable bottoming out. The remote control is full featured controlling the tuner (presets and seek), CD player (play, stop, pause, skip/search, program, random, etc.), both tape decks (play, stop, FF, rewind), timer, bass boost, volume, power, etc. Essential everything I needed. The system is asthetically pleasing, not bland like the Sony, cheap like RCA or Philips, or masculine like the Panasonic or JVC. Beneficial features include: "Disc change" (change 2 discs while on is playing), video/aux input, four stages of bass boost, timer, and outstanding remote control. I would have liked Dolby NR on the tape desks and auto-reverse on both desks instead of one but at this price level its understandable why these are not present. I purchased the NSXA555 on sale at Circuit City for $180- regularly $200-. Can also be found at Best Buy and online at 800.com, amazon.com, and jandr.com for similar prices. Initially, I rate this a 5. I'll report later on long term use. Similar Products Used: Sony MHC-RXD2 and MHC-RXD3 |

Either the rest of the review-ees have PERFECT cds, or they are all on crack!! I bought this system about two weeks ago, only to find that it won't play cds even with the most superficial of scratches. It seems every other player I own, including my car stereo, will play the same cds with no problem. This player is too picky when it comes to cd condition, and I'm going to take it back real soon. Fair warning to all who are thinking of buying this system...BEWARE THE SCRATCHES!!! |

Strength:
Bi-Amplified speaker system (wow!), good 3CD changer, Nice CD to tape dubbing features, full function remote, priced lower than you'd expect, I think it looks good
Weakness:
Expected more from 6.5 inch bandpass speaker design, mid-high range speaker is kinda crappy, ho-hum dual cassette deck, strange CD playback I think my dad got this system for around or under 200 bucks. For the price, it has some really neat features that'd you'd expect with more expensive systems. The Bi-Amplified speaker system is nice in theory since the lows and mids-highs are handled by seperate amps. It's CD to tape editing is also quite nice, but a bit complex and useless unless you need to make cassette copies on the go (I just grab a few CD's with my portable). It also has a host of other features that are standard on most systems of this kind, so this review will concentrate on the sound aspect and the Bi-Amped speaker system (rare on a system priced like this one). |

Strength:
Full featured remote, price
Weakness:
Lots of them. Mainly lousey sound! I would not buy it!! I have heard some bad sounding systems. However I have seen the price range from $150 to $200 for this unit. I used to sell them. I felt guilty because it was junk. it always broke down. If you are going to by this unit, get the service contract. You will need it. Consider the Magnavox that I mentioned above. It is much more worth your while. Similar Products Used: Phillips Magnavox 545C37 |

Strength:
Nice display, makes great cassette recordings, nice bass
Weakness:
Cd's can get caught up in the back ofd it This is a very nice stereo for its price and class, and with a THD of less than .1% who can complain. Anyway IF A CD GETS STUCK IN THE PLAYER THAN TURN IT UPSIDE DOWN AND SHAKE THE CD OVER THE TRAY, THEN WHEN YOU FLIP IT IT WILL FALL ONTO THE CD TRAY AND YOU CAN GET TO IT USING DISC CHANGE. Many aiwa multidisc units seem to suffer this same problem, oh well I can still crank this bad boy up and piss off the neighbors. And by the way, if you want to hear how much base this system can create, disconnect the speakers but not the subs, hehe then turn it up to the max with some bassic stuff like Smashing Pumkins 1971, if you stand in front of it you'll get sick...HEHEHE! Strength:
Radio sounds clear
Weakness:
CD's skip, tuner is to slow to tune in channels not already programed in it. Stuid "Good-Bye" signal when turning off I own a company in Santa Fe Srings CA, and my shipping clerk, who is a DJ during the weekends, bought this unit and brought it to work. When he 1st brought it in I looked at the quality and saw all the cheap plastic and asked him how much. He told me the price which now I forgot, but once he told me, I knew the saying "You get what you pay for" was going to come true. I said to him "I will give it 3 months for the 3 tray CD player to skip or to mulfuntion." Sure enough, 3 months to the date this cheap over grown Boom box skips half the time or repeats sections over and over again. One day when my shipping clerk was sick and I had to ship a few things in his place, I wanted to listem to either Jazz or Classical music. It was hard to fine the "On" button, I had to take off my glasses and read the fine print...there it is...off to the left, what a strange place to put a "On" button. Then there is no normal tuner dial, but had a "skip-forward button" that takes forever to change channels. A person has to program this unit in order to make it funtion correctly, and it is not easy for just anyone to quickly find and adjust it. Why make it so difficult for such simple buttons? Then when I turned it off, the unit had this stuid "Good-Bye" flash on the dial screen. Why can't Aiwa take this funtion out with a few other funtions, and put the money into a better CD player? Ratings: (4) for the sound of the radio, (1) for the cheap plastic, (2) for the 3 tray CD player that skips, (1) for the over programable but not easy to 1st use funtions. (4+1+2+1)/4=2 |
