This is the best shelf system I've ever owned. And let me tell you the way the speakers are designed, they use every watt that the receiver pumped out. Ive used this system for parties, casual listening and to just rock out and its lasted me for years. It will rattle every window you have in a two story home, easily. And the sound quality for the price is unsurpassable.

this system is awsome, I got yesterday and the sound is great. when i was playing it in the store other people looking for mini systems were like whoa. that is a very good system. with all the options that come with it, it is a great buy. it was 500 dollars at best buy, and they had a deal that you get a free subwoofer with any mini system purchase over 250, plus I got a four year warrenty that covers everthing for 50, plus tax and everything brought it to 586, but its worth it. the subwoofer they gave me was a klh 50 watt 6 1/2 subwoofer, I didnt think it would sound good but the aiwa gives it alot of power to sound good. my system rivails my dads 2000 system which consists of an infinity cc2 center speaker, sony front speakers, jvc rear speakers and a 150 watt 10" jbl subwoofer, it has an onkyo reciever and a sony 550 dvd, the bass on the is better then my aiwa but the sound is practically the same. plus a neat little toy on the aiwa is the kareoke functions, theres one botton for a bass drum and another for a high hat, and it has all these rythoms that can be played during any song. and if you hold done the bass botton for a little bit you could use the jog control as a scracter. its pretty cool. the only system that is better then this one is the aiwa nsxdst717, but I couldnt find it anywere. also the aiwa nsxds11 has a built in dolby digital decoder. so dvd movies would be really cool. i think the aiwa nsxds11 is one of the best systems out there and is a great buy for under 600. good bye fellow audio enthuiasts

Confusing Manual.

A great system for smaller rooms. Also the beauty of this system is that it is an all-in-one Home Theater system. A hookup is very simple. You have a pretty good controls over your surround and center speakers, you can change the intensity of sound output for each speaker individually in Surround mode. The power is also impressive for a mini system. A little nice features like T-bass, BBE and EQ are very useful. CD player section is also pretty good. One minus with the cassette is that you can't use metal tapes, but hey, it's a mini system after all. But you have to remember that it is definitely not a rack system. I wouldn't recommend this system for large rooms because center and surround speakers are relatively weak. Overall a perfect system for your bedroom. I highly recommend it.

From the first day I bought the mini system I loved the thing. The sound quality out of the NSX-DS11 is the best I've ever heard out of a mini system. I like the CD player at the bottom of the unit instead of the top. I also bought a 120 watt Aiwa subwoofer, which when cranked up with the system, shakes shakes the ground...outside. I recomend this stereo who wants stunning sound quality in a bedroom.

Fuzzy sound, problems with sub output

Let me say, I read these reviews and I should have listened. This Aiwa is belated with problems. The first thing I noticed is the subwoofer output was not working at all. Next, their is a distortion type noise coming from the amplifier and it gets in the way of the sound as volume goes up. The final straw is the tweeters. They are not working at all, I here nothing from them at all. There is also a fuzzy sound coming from the right speaker, almost like the midrange is blown. This stereo is going back where it came from and I've only had it two days, brand new out of the box. I have constantly had problems with Aiwa products, all of them act up. The DS-11 is supposed to be one of the top of the lines, however, it's defects make it sound like garbage. Please listen, spend your money on equipment that lasts. Buy Sony, JVC, Panasonic. They last. This is the straw that breaks the camel's back, all 410 watts or whatever it is. I am giving this stereo five stars for value, it was a steal, however, it is going back as quick as it got here.

I just bought my Aiwa NSX-DS11 today. It is very impressive to look at and watch work. I love that the CD tray is on the bottom instead of the top. That makes it a lot easier to see which CD's are in the tray. It has great features such as Dolby B NR for the dual auto reverse cassette deck, four user programable EQ settings, and a dimmer for when you're watching movies. There were a few things that I really don't like about the system. The first thing is the constant high-pitched hiss I get when listening to any source. I tried multiple things to make it quit, but the only way was to set the EQ's highest frequency setting all the way down, which made music sound terrible. I also hate the fact that you cannot access all of the external inputs via the remote control. There are two sets of stereo RCA analog inputs on the back of the unit, "Video 1/DVD/AUX" and "Video 2/LD/MD". You cannot switch to the Video 2 input from the remote control. You have to push the button for it on the unit in order to listen from it. Overall I do think that it is a nice system and when I crank it up, its power blows me away!

I'm surprised there are so many bad reviews of the DS11 on here. I've been using this for well over a year and I've had absolutely no problems so far.

1) The sound quality is great. For those of you who say it's horrible, you need to do some adjusting of the equalizer/t-bass/bbe/dsp. It took me a few weeks to tweak everything, but once you do it sounds awesome.

2) BBE and T-Bass are both excellent. The DSPS isn't spectacular but with the right equalizer settings it sounds good (if you customize an eq w/ each band lower, like below half-way, then the rear speakers really come alive).

3) The Dolby Digital Decoder is terrible. I can hardly tell a difference between digital and pro-logic. The rear speakers are far too quiet, even when you raise their level up all the way. If you want a home theater system, buy a separate receiver and speakers, it will be much much better.

4) I've had no problems with the CD changer, it changes really quickly and has an innovative design to take up less space.

5) The sub output is great if you have a separate powered sub. When you plug in a sub, the system automatically initiates a low-pass filter, so the main speakers don't deal with frequencies below 80 Hz (i think its 80). This makes the sound quality even better, because the main speakers are midranges and aren't desigend for low frequencies.

6) Low THD. I think it is rated at 1% or somethign, which isn't that good, but this rating is very very conservative. With the volume at 45/50 the distortion is hardly noticeable. Therefore, this thing can get LOUD. I turned it all the way up and took a walk down the block and I could hear it about 4 houses down. My neighbors haven't complained. Yet.

Overall, it's a great system, and now that the price has dropped it's definitely worth buying.

I dont quite understand why this system is called "mini", as it showcases 5 speakers with an overall output of a whopping 410 watts. Yikes! I like this stereo because it is loud and has good sound. It is rather expensive but if you can afford to splurge a little I would reccomend it. It is Dolby Digital Ready so you can hook it up to your tv/vcr or whatever. I like using it when I play N64. The sound is amazing! It easily fills my small bedroom with throbbing bass, and when cranked can bounce my whole basement. The only drawback that I can think of is that I have heard of cases where the cd player randomly stops working, but I have had mine for 6 months and I have not encountered any problems yet. Altogether a great sounding system for those of us who can go the extra mile to pursue quality, while simultaneously draining our pocketbooks.

I just want to update on my earlier review, as it has been a few months. I am still loving the hell out of this stereo! I was suprised to read of two reviews which complained of sound quality, mine sounds fine. I am very excited about my most recent investment- a new 100 watt KLH subwoofer (look for that review as well). I thought the stereo had amazing bass when I bought it, and it does, but the addition of the sub makes a WORLD of difference. It can play the extreme low stuff to majorly complement the built-in subs in the left and right speakers. I got the sub for $99 because my friend works in an electronics store, but its normally about $120-150. Still, it would be worth it because it brings my cost to less than $500 ($370+$100) and brings my total wattage up to 510. Damn!
