Strength:

Crisp Clean Sound for the price. Easy to use. Visually appealing.

Weakness:

Unreliable CD player. Cassette controls are flimsy and seperate from electronic controls for CD player and Radio

I've had my Aiwa system for quite a few years now. It's was a recommended buy in Consumer Reports back then. It lasted about 2 years before noticed problems with the CD player. It started skipping songs and for ever scanning the CD's. It further led to not being able to skip ahead even one song nevermind a whole bunch. Finally earlier this year it died on me. The radio and Tape decks still run fine and I get plenty of powerful sound out of it. It has enough power to run 4 speakers. ( the original 2 plus to old Sony's that I got {200W each}).
I'm pretty happy with the system but I'm a little dissapointed that the miss design of the CD player led to it's short life span. I might consider buying a new Aiwa in the future only if they smarten up and redesign the player.
That was my 2 bits worth.

Strength:

Great sound and user-friendly controls...chicks dig it's lights.

Weakness:

Well..let's see if YOU can guess this one folks!
Can you say, "CD SUCKS"? Yep..CD stopped working after about 3 years. I took the laser out and cleaned it several times. It would work for a week or so. Now it won't play at all. I'll tell you what, I'm thinking about taking a f'n hammer to the piece of crap! I sure hope Aiwa redesigned this optical piece of junk. I'm glad I'm not alone. I almost bought another one tonight at Best Buy.

I said it all in the weeknesses section! Whew!!

I bought this system 1-1/2 years ago and did not have any problems until the CD player stopped working. Everything else (cassette player, radio and video/aux) worked fine. I tried to use a CD cleaner, but it wouldn't even play that. For $20, I took it to Best Buy, and they cleaned it withn 15 minutes. My fault I hadn't been using a CD cleaner before.
I highly recommend Aiwa products. I purchased an Aiwa jambox and portable cassette player 15 years ago and 5 years ago, respectively, and they work great.

Strength:

Stability...realiability

Weakness:

No auto reverse, mic input is mono

I can't believe this system broken on some of you...that sucks, must have been a bad batch or something. Mine is from
1996 and it still works great, CD player, radio, aux input, mic input
tape player...everything is fine.

My only problems with this system is that an input into the mic
is only treated as mono, not stereo but that problem can be avoided by using the aux inputs...No auto reverse on the tapes either

Strength:

nice radio

Weakness:

cd player and tape deck broke as soon as the warranty was gone

I have had two NSX series mini-systems and both have failed me. The CD players consistently and the tape deck break soon after the the CD. I would not recommend and AIWA product to anyone. They will only bring disappointment for nice looking but poorly built product. Run from AIWA and their CD players. It would be wiser to buy separate components and build a quality system.

After about 1 year, the CD player would not work on some CD's. Used a dry CD cleaner, and the CD started working again. Now however, the CD works on only a couple of CD's, and is pretty much dying. Sound is good for the size and quality of the speakers, but this mini-system is one to stay aways from.

Strength:

I love the remote control, sounds great when it works

Weakness:

The 3 cd player section broke 1 month after the warrnaty expired. My aunt's system of the same year and model did the same thing. Called AIWA and they were anything but helpful; refusing to return calls, etc. THey are fully aware of the problems with this system. Had my system cleaned once which helped for about one month, then slowly, one by one, the cds wouldn't work. I just had it cleaned for a second time and it is in week 2 of working. CD cleaners dry or wet do nothing. I could have had a new Cd player for what I paid to have this one cleaned and the cleaning products. I would NEVER EVER NEVER accept one of these AIWA systems as a gift let alone buy one. It is the most expensive tape player/radio I have ever owned.

See all the weakness. Only accept this system if it is free and you only want a tape player/radio. What a pile of junk.

Strength:

good doorstop

Weakness:

it teases you by actually playing a cd once every couple of months

I just want to know how they engineered this selfloathing peice of welfare sh_t to selfdestruct the cd player within 1 month of warranty expiration.
If Aiwa was the last stereo maker on the planet, I would live my life without music...never again

Strength:

Ease of use, good sound

Weakness:

The CD player no longer works (imagine that!)

Received this stereo for my 16th birthday. The first model I got had a faulty tape deck, so back to the dealer it went. The second model worked well until about a year ago, when it stopped skipping tracks on CDs. Pretty soon it wouldn't play certain CDs at all, and now the CD deck has completely stopped functioning. My old roommate had the same stereo that had the same problem. Another friend has a boyfriend who just bought a new Aiwa stereo that is having the same problems with his CD. I would not recommend buying an Aiwa stereo. What a waste of money!

Strength:

well, the on/off button still works

Weakness:

the rest doesn't

DO NOT BUY THIS SET!!!!!!!I bought this piece of crap about 1 1/2 years ago and had nothing but trouble with it. The speakers still work. I think the reason for this is that they sounded like ****, as most minisystem speakers do. That made me decide to buy better ones, so I didn't use the aiwa speakers.
most of the other reviewers complain that their cd player doesn't play cd's at all. Well, mine at least tries to play them, but it skips, stops, repeats etc continuously during the play. Cleaning discs didn't solve the problem and the warranty has -of course- just expired. But I also have another problem with the tape deck. Just a couple of months after I bought the set, the tape deck started eating most of my tapes. But the deck found a solution for this problem: it has stopped playing at all (capstans don't work anymore). I strongly recommend not to buy aiwa. My brother has a jvc cas50bk for over 6 years and it still works great.
